I know there are quite a few followers of the pflueger Trion, and I'm sure it is a very good reel. Does it work for bass as well as it does steelhead? Can you flip with it? I was also wondering if anyone has ever tried a Progidy casting reel from Cabela's?

Thanks for advice!!

floatandjig:

I recently bought a Trion spinning reel (eBay) from a fellow who lives in Virginia, and he fishes bass tournaments for a living.

He told me he had been using Zebco's for several years, but last year changed over to the Trion baitcasters because of their smoother drag action and better reliability.

So, based on his comments as a pro bass fisherman I would give it a resounding YES as to serving dual roles.

BTW:

Found a seller who has a number of them for sale on eBay right now, with great Buy It Now prices.

See:

Hopefully he can get some LH models...says he can. If so, I'll be getting 2 more...Woo Hoo!

I really like the Calais, and the Scorpion(Japanese version of the Curado.) Both reels are smooth with excellent drag and you can flip for Bass with them.

I've got a Pfleuger Trion and a Bass Pro Shops Extreme 7'6" rod that I use for flippin. When you hold the Trion in your hand and feel that freewheeling "whiffle spool", you'll want one BAD! I picked it up at Angler's Marine in Spanaway. Go in there and talk to Bob. He'll hook you up.

There's also a Bass Pro Shops reel that looks exactly like the Pfleuger Trion. You may be able to get a BPS rod/reel combo deal for a lot less dough than buying them separately.
