I was driving N bound I5 near the base in tacoma 2 weekends ago and this peacock flew really low and across all lanes and landed on the other side. At first I thought it was a turkey. Is it a lost pet or what? Don't recall seeing one outside the zoo :rolleyes:

You'll hear 'em along the banks of the Sol Duc.

The Allen's have raised exotic birds for years ... some really neat ones too ... endangered species of pheasants for zoos, primarily of Asian origin.

But they have a few peacocks too. Always fun coming up with a story of what sort of a critter is in the woods for the clients.

An emu got out from the Huelsdonk Ranch a couple of Christmas ago. The car in front of us (out-of-state plates) almost hit it about two miles south. They got and started shooting pic after pic, I think they thought they'd found a new species on the Peninsula

I live between Monroe and Sultan and pet peacocks are fairly common. Most people keep them in pens however there are a few that are allowed to roam, "free range" peacocks if you will. You'll see them all over the place but they always return home, or at least until the cars or coyotes get them.

A friend of mine got dive bombed by a rooster, of all things, up on the Skagit last week...knocked it in the river with an oar!

The report is that the rooster floated well, but wasn't a very good swimmer...but managed to make it to a log jam and crawl up out of the water. The dunking seemed to take the steam out of the rooster, who slunked back to wherever he came from...

Yup, lots of people in the Pierce county area have exotic birds (I only know thanks to my job lol). But most in Tacoma area that I know of are caged birds. May have got loose. Or cage left open. I do know of a few breeders out in Gig Harbor that have TONS of exotics. I've been DYING for a pelt or two. Have lucked into some JC and BEP from them off dead birds. Nice scores. But it's the grays pheasants they have I'm really after. LOL. Don't think they'd be too happy if I "accidentally" ran one over. LOL. Doubt they'd give me the pelt either.

If the 2nd car in front of me was going any faster that peacock would have made a few good Skykomish sunrise, etc. if it keeps flying low, it won't last long or someone might think it is a turkey and tag it. LOL
