Thanks for helping us out with our decision on a new Fishfinder. Its nice to get some some pointers from somebody with your experience and knowledge.

I really didnt have a clue what to look for,so your advice was really helpful.

I ended up going with the Garmin 240 Blue.Got it hooked up Thurs. night.Went fishing yesterday.We had 2 springers on,lost both.Landed 12 sturgeon w/ 1 keeper 43".

Cant wait to put some more time in getting used to the new finder.Getting it dialed in and getting my full use out of it.

Unfortunately the store I purchased it at ended up being a hassle. If I would have known I probably would have went somewhere else and bought the Eagle 320 DF .(wish we would have been closer to yours)
I know were going to be happy with the Garmin though.

Just wanted to say thanks,again
Rick

I'm always interested in any help or pointers I can get.I was just going to take some time.Sit down with the book and do the best I could.I really dont know that much about fishfinders.Or setting them up.But decided when we bought this 1, I was going to learn as much as I can and Start getting the full use of it.Instead of just looking for slots,or holes. and hoping it showed fish.In the past I used mine more as a depth finder instead of depth and fish finder.

A couple quick pointers for ya,

1) "Do not" use fish symbol, turn them off, the unit will give you more info with those symbols turned off. Instead of everything just looking like a fish, with symbols off, fish look like slashes, bait appear as a ball or cloud and thermoclines aa a fuzzy line accross the screen.

2) Learn how to do all the adjustments manually, do not use auto-settings, once you getting your unit dialed in, you will get alot more info out of it.

3) I always recommend running dual frequency units on "dual frequency", there will be times when a fish or bait will show up on 1 frequency but not the other, by running on dual you will see more then sticking with 1 frequency over another.

4) I know you said it was mainly for freshwater use but if you do any bottomfishing, switch to 200khz frequency and turn on the bottom lock.

5) See suggestion 2 again.

Good fishing
