Hello all. I'm sort of on a fact finding mission here. The next few weeks im gonna be exploring the "southern" rivers such as the Cowlitz, Kalama & Lewis. Does the Lewis or Kalama produce more Springers and whcih one of the 2 has better bank access. Has anyone been fishing these 2 rivers and does anyone have any reports? Thanks in advance!! Jim

Parker...What do you mean by "everyone"? Are you saying you fished the Lewis and it was crowded? Did you see many salmon being caught? Does anyone know which hatchery is the Salmon hatchery on the Kalama? I noticed there are 2 hatcherys on that river. Thanks for the post.

I should start my own weekly rag: Parker's Hunting & Fishing News.

I could post big fish on the covers, make up stuff, post maps, directions, GPS coordinates, how-to's, etc!

This will be GREAT!!!

Thanks! I will be keeping up the good work.

My contact tells me that on Friday, there was easily 100 boats on the Lewis. Most in Aetna, MeatHole, Blood Rock, Docks, Hapa, and few trying to get some summer runs or tidewater springers.

Some fish are being caught. Those that know what they are doing are getting fish. Most are not, or are only getting a fish here and there.

The key is using something the fish haven't seen. After seeing a million baits go by them, the springers stop biting.

Also, "the fleet" has already started heavily fishing for summer runs down there. It's way too early for any consistant numbers, but hey, to each their own.

I won't be fishing down there until the summer runs really start coming in - in June. In the meantime, there are plenty of springers and summer runs to be caught in other, less used, rivers.

Oh yeah, I don't know much about the Kalama, so I can't help you there. Sorry.

Since "everyone" else is too busy gabbing to answer your question....

The Upper Kalama Hatchery is the Salmon Hatchery.

The Kalama probably has better bank access but the Lewis gets more fish.

I fished the Kalama yesterday for Springers. There are a fair amount of fish around. A sudden rain squall around 5:30 PM turned on the bite for about 20 minutes. I missed the one bite I got \:\( . You have to put in your time to get these fish.
