I am hearing stories about people fishing the north fork of the Lewis river and I hear they are catching them but I hear it is a zoo. I dont want to fish a zoo. I fish the Sky and Skagit and want to broaden my horizons. I would like to go down there and fish the Lewis but I dont want to deal with so many people. If there is anybody out there that can just give me driving directions to the river ( not to your secret hole, I will find my own) I will then discover the river myself I just need driving directions I know most of you are tight lipped and wont give out secrets. I am not looking for secrets just directions. By the way Wallace river just received there first three chinook of the season for what I heard. FISH ON

Heading South from Seattle, hop on I-5 and drive to woodland. Take the 2nd Woodland exit. Drive down to the light and take a left under the freeway. You can either continue up this road all the way up to and past the hatchery, or you can take a hard right and follow that road all the way up to the other side of the hatchery.

Most of the springers will be up at the Hatchery, or if not, down in deeper holes only accessible by boat.

Same for the summer runs, although they tend to be more spread out in the river system.

If you want to fish for springers, I'd bring a long rod, some floats, and some good eggs, and fish up by the hatchery.

Not too sure I'd waste my time on the bank for summer runs up there yet.

Personally, I'd tell you to go explore the Kalama. There are fish in the Kalama, and not nearly as many fisherman. Way more friendlier bank access (or so I've been told).

Oh wait, now that I've just posted this, the Kalama will be packed to the gunnels with people.

If I had to guess JTD, I bet those what-nots were the hot ticket down on the Kalama!

Although, it's getting to be that time of year when you should be breaking out the Opher Prawns.

Bite has been good for the Springers still but they're getting finicky toward most. Was out the last two nights and we Tony and I took 4 each eve but only saw a couple other fish caught....

Better have you A+ Bait and your gameface on or you won't get a springer to even sniff your offering...

As for steelhead a buddy of mine went down last night and fished the whole river for 0 bites... Sad to see, they should be here soon. But with the springers a little late they will be to I bet...

That's Opher, as in "Parker is O-fer 6".

Ah, your buddies. One damn lousy day on the river for springers last year, and I am now forever branded as Opher. Or Bone. Or Parker.

However, I did break out the Opher Prawns and a can of WhoopAss that day and re-deemed myself!

The nickname just stuck.

There is very little bank access to the N Lewis

on the north Bank there is access right in town behind the concrete wall.. a few miles up the river at the Island boat launch.. at the golf course. The cedar creek hatchery and at the boat ramp just below merwin dam

On the South bank there is access right at the bridge over the river in town, a few miles up there is a plunking spot along the road, then there is access at happa crusher and at the South side across from the Cedar creeh hatchery.
Anywhere around the hatchery will be a zoo and you'll want to avoid that. Happa crusher is also likely to have a few boats and a few waders ( if it's even low enough to wade)

access in the other spots is on marginal water or water that is sled after sled free drifting.
