Anyone fishing up in the Canyon or down at the Falls? Any luck?

I'm thinking about going down either tomorrow or Friday...never done it before.

Thanks in advance!

Exactly what FASTWATER said Todd, it's a week or two early yet.

Lead thrower, Beezer and I will be in that area over the Memorial day holiday, doin' a little shad fishing. You should plan on coming down then and we'll see if we can't find a springer or two. (or 20)

Hey, 4Salt!

Quit spammin' my thread with stuff about your vacation...unless I'm still invited to come down and take a try on your sturgeon rod, that is!

Are you going to be down there Fri-Mon?

Thanks, Snit!

Unfortunately, I'm well-acquainted with the three-leaved b@stard...growing up around the Puget Sound area, then moving to Spokane for Law School, I learned to avoid poison oak after getting it all over my legs from trout fishing the Spokane River.

Nasty stuff...

Todd, come down after June 1 and I'll take you down the Klickitat. I don't know much about springers but i Know the river. I really think you'd be dissapointed by the Wind river canyon and you'd be wishing you had a cell phone that worked to turn in the snaggers. of course you'd probably be willing to hike a bit to get away from them..

Rob,

Let me just say this...your assessment of the Wind River Canyon was spot on. Blatant snag fest with absolutely no intention of even trying to look otherwise. Saw about twenty hooked, two fair (one by me, one by my buddy's girlfriend, both lost), about ten or twelve landed, all foul hooked, all kept.

For the few amount of fish and people at this time, there is already quite a disgusing display of garbage and fish guts on the banks. I can't imagine what it must look like in a couple of weeks.

Fish on...

Todd

I will be staying at Skamania Lodge the first week of June for a meeting. I was going to bring my rod and give the Wind a go early in the morning. Sounds like it might not be worth it. I have never fished the Wind itself, just on the Columbia in the area at the mouth of the river. I will have to hunt around to find the access but it sounds like the smell of rotting fish guts and poachers will lead me there.

Wait for another week until the fish have moved up to 7 mile canyon. Park in the parking lot and hike down the road 1/4 mile to where the trail leads down to the river. Hike past the snagger's hole (downstream) and then scramble over some rocks and pick your way along the river. Drift small globs of eggs here and there until you figure things out. This fishery takes a while to learn. You are about 75 yards downstream of the downstream end of the 7 mile snagger hole. The snaggers do not come down there because it is not snagging water.

Thanks Barnettm! Even though that meeting is a week early I will take a hike down there and wet a line anyway. At least I will get a chance to learn some spots. I appreciate the advice very much. Mike
