hey folks, any insight into sturgeon fishing, i.e chances of a guy with no experience catching one? I would only be able to go for one maybe two days and would like to come back with something to show for my efforts. any insight would be great, also any of you sturgeon fishermen, who would want to share a boat ride in exchange for knowledge would e welcome. not sure when I would be going but probably the first weekend in june or so. any insight would be great

Did you have an idea where you were headed in general? I might be able to help.

I am really open to most anything, I am however very reserved about venturing out to far as my boat is a 16 foot mirrocraft similiar to the smokercraft sprey, not exactly your typical tuna chaser or anything. If you are fairly certain you could put us on fish, chime in and we can go fishing, I am in the military so my plans are often last minute with 2-3 days notice though. it is also a 4 hour drive for me as well, so It may turn into a 2 day trip ( the second day optional)

I may be able to help you. But be forewarned, will probably get you INTO fish, but not guaranteed you'll get any keepers. Just luck of the draw. Plus have fishless days as well. So you never know. But not able to fish as of right now. But depends on how soon you plan to hit them.

If you're headed to Tri-Cities, drop me a line. My knowledge is pretty limited and I've yet to catch a keeper, but would be happy to take you out.

I hope it isn't bad form to direct you to another board on my first post, but you might want to check out: http://www.steelheader.net/home/default.shtml

They're pretty nice folks, and I believe they're planning a sturgeon fishing get-together for that weekend. They'll probably get you up to speed on techniques pretty quick. I could probably be arm-twisted into going with you if you have an extra seat, but I should warn you that I'm an old Hospital Corpsman and I'll probably bore the hell out of you with war stories & such. \:D

docs are always welcome in my boat as they keep my happy arse alive( I am a marine) I will be getting a better handle on my timeframe soon, if it works out and I can go, I am fairly good at twisting arms, and you may end up riding shotgun. I don't think there is any problem with refering pertinent information in a post, if it deals with what we are talking about.

mindfusion,

I just checked that other board, and the 5th & 6th are on for sure. There will be a number of folks there who know sturgeon & know the river, so a nice day on the water should be pretty easy to come by. I'd be honored to fish with you if it works out.

well just got pictures thrown in my face over a weekend fishign excursion a couple of coworkers made, and needless to say I will be heading where they went this weekend, so if I am not broke because of it, I may have the ling fever out in time for a quick trip to the columbia.

Ling!!! yummmmmmmmmmm!!!

I went bottom fishing out of Westport a few weeks ago & limited on rock fish & ling. There's no better eating fish in the ocean than ling in my opinion.

Hope you get a mess of 'em. Depending on where you're going, maybe you can scare up a halibut or 2. Good luck!
