I need you guys ratings for the Osprey with Sea Sport boats of the same size and power?

I am having a real headache with my first boat.
It is very difficult decision when there are a ton of quality boats in this area.

Any comments or suggestions is greatly appreicated.

Thanks

This probably won't help much.

A little advice, pick a good boat with good resale value and then don't sweat it too much. Then, when you find out you picked the wrong one ie 2 foot short, you'll have more options. \:\)

Seriously though, those two makes are similar. I'd probably go with the layout that I liked the best unless you like the ride of one a lot better than the other.

I am a owner of a Seasport and won't own any other they are a very well built boat and you can add all they options you want at any time not just at the time of the sale. If you love to fish and camp on the water you won't
be disappointed with the Seasport. What ever
you decide to buy get the TR-1 for the trolling motor!!!!

My father recently went through the same decision. I think he made the right choice on the Osprey for a few reasons the most important ones where-

The Osprey is a straight shot into the cabin, the Seasport is a step down, think about sitting inside drinkin some coffee, someone yells "fish on!" you make a dash for the rod and forget theres a step up to the deck.. Ouch!

Also the fit and finish on the newer Seasports aint what it used to be..

Dont get me wrong both are wonderful boats!

Good luck!

Had a SeaSport for 12 years and it was a very good boat. The only complaint I had was it was a rough ride. But that was a 27'. The 24's have a much better ride. I was recently looking at boats for my new purchase and when looking at the Ospreys and SeaSports I would've bought the SeaSport over the Osprey. I agree with Brian that the fit and finish on the SeaSport isn't what it used to be, but it's still better than the fit and finish on the Osprey. I looked at an Osprey 30' that had horrible fit and finish.

I have not ridden either boats yet but the hull design are very different b/w the two.
Those who had experience both of these boats, could you please elaborate on the hull performance?
Also, what do you guys know about the new Suzuki 4 Strokes 250?

Hoghunter,
I don't understand your last post.
Could you please rephrase the distinctions b/w the two boats?

Thanks

Different models of SeaSport have different hull designs. Some are a deep V and other's are a modified V. The 22 and 27 foot models have the modified V which rides hard at planing speed but is more stable when drifting or at slow speeds. I had a 27 and it rode rough.

I have talked with several people that had the Suzuki 250 and they all complained about problems. One even had them taken off and replaced with Yamaha Four strokes. The Yamaha is a proven motor and I've read good things about the new Mercury 4 stroke that is just being released. However with any new motor it's always best to wait until the bugs are out.

I went thru this in '98 & got the 24' SeaSport. True, the Osprey is flat from deck to cabin, but that makes for a much taller boat - higher sides & cabin. Higher center of gravity and bigger "sail". In '98 the Osprey seemed a lot sloppier in f&f and seemed flimsy in some areas (compare the motor covers and railings). I can get to the bow witout doing the unstable heel-to-toe walk required on the Osprey. Also the reverse-angle windshield and "well" on the bow is nice in many ways.
