Here are a few of the Halibut we caught on the opener, got back on Friday evening. Took a couple of friends out in the ocean and caught lots of Halibut and Lings as well as other assorted bottom fish. We were boarded twice by the WDFW and passed their inspections, but sure makes you wonder if you have done everything right at the moment.
The largest for me, of the trip was one that was about 90 lbs and another of about 82 lbs.
One of the other board members with me, Havnfun, caught Halibut to 40 pound as well as Mike. We had a great trip with Fantastic weather, which made for smooth water.
Here are some pictures, although one is of poor quality.

So, when you were boarded, what were they looking for? Was it fishregs or safety or both? Inquiring minds want to know...

Lead Thrower, I always wear my old pair of breathables in the boat, that halibut slime is nasty stuff, also keeps me dry when spraying the blood off of the deck. Just a bonus, keeps you warm and dry as it is breathable. I want to get some breathable raingear someday, but that stuff is pretty spendy.

Haifisch, they just ask you all kinds of questions, with regards to lifevests, etc, as well as what are you fishing for and what kind and how many fish do you have aboard. They even asked one of my buddies in anoher boat where they were keeping their fish from the day before and where they were camping.
Just give the "right" answers and they will leave you alone most of the time.

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

Same reason I wear my waders because the breathable raingear is pricy and I can't really justify buying a set when I only would use it 3 times a year. Almost all my fishing is done on rivers.

Are those Halibut as slimy as a Humpy or even worse?

FishNG1 - you are a midget, aren't you? \:D Either that, or you are holding that flatting with outstretched arms to make it look big on film! ;\)

Wow. Nice fish. You are The Big Fish Man! Right on!

WDFW wants to know everything. They asked when we got to town how many days we limited how many fish we had at camp and where all the extra fish where. They were very nice guys but definetly looking to site you for something.

Nice work steve. Looks even bigger on the dock. Next time leave some of the big ones down on the bottom for the grundens crew.

Hey Shoemaker, it was nice meeting you this weekend.Funny how we have both conversed on this board and have mutual friends that we both fish with and never knew it.

I'll be seeing more of you and Ross at Westport this year I take? I'll just look for the orange "Grunden" guys. Did Gary tell you the story behind the Grundens?, if not ask him, and make sure he uses his alaskan accent.

Take it easy.
