Anybody ever make the cylindrical sleeve to shove into the sand while digging ducks to make sure the sides don't fall into the hole?

If you did what was it made from, and how long did it need to be?

I have been told a grabage can with the bottom cut off or a huge steel pot with the bottom cut out works great. I have never tried myself, just purely heresay.
Good luck

Yes: A smaller (25 gallons?) metal can with the bottom cut off works great. Also, I cut several feet of hose and force that on the top as you can lay directly on it. Fasten it with some metal wire and you are good to go.

Of yeah- lastly fasten a strong piece of rope with plenty of slack (5 ft total) to each side- or to the handles. This helps immensly to pull the can out of the suction sand.

Good Luck.

The cheap garbage can worked good for us yesterday, we went 6 for 6 and had a blast. Not sure if there is a Hood Canal Grand Slam with all the closures, but Geoducks, clams, Oyesters and Crab are at least a triple.

I guess I should get a book on the subject, but can someone please tell me how deep one must dig for for these geoducks? I assume they must be pretty good eating plus a good excuse to go to the beach.

Any info., links, suggested books greatly appreciated.
