I was wondring if anyone on this board buys reels on ebay. Do you get what you pay for? How can you be sure that you are buying a new reel, even if it says its new?

look at thier feedback, and remember about shipping and handling, I have gotten great deals on used penns that have cleaned up awesome, but ask for better closeups as sometimes thier version of "light" pitting is far different than yours. I also sell reels from time to time and try to post high quality pictures and describe the reel slightly downgraded because I know how important it is to be happy with the reel you purchased. buying new is sometimes hard, since the price break they may get from buying in bulk is often ate up by the shipping. READ FEEDBACK! really important try to find some that was over a deal for a reel, where the other customers happy with a similiar product?

I have purchased over 100 items new and used pertaining to fishing on E bay. Wiggle warts, poles, reels and lots more. All the items that I have bought have been as they were described. The key is to read all descriptions about the item. Ask questions. If they don't respond to your question, don't buy. Look at the pictures carefully. If there is no picture, ask the seller to send you one. Read feed back. I won't buy from someone with less then 98% positive feed back. One of the things that you need to watch out for is the shipping and handling charges. Alote of sellers will sell there item at a lower price then stick it to you on shipping. If your willing to watch and wait, you can get some raelly good deals.

Spacifically to reels, my last to purchases were a 11 bb Daiwa Millionaire CV-Z 253 Japan version for 190.00, (lists for 350.00) and a Daiwa TD-X 100HSDF for 160.00, (lists for 210.00) Both are very good reels and were new as described.

Also worth the time to go to NexTag.com and check for the best retail price before bidding. I've bought several reels, new and used and have always been satisfied. But do think some folks often overpay.

Hi All
I sell a lot on Ebay. Most people are honest. I suggest you sign up and use Paypal. Then if you don't get what your supposed to, you have a way of getting your $$ back.
Also, not all things on Ebay are a deal. My brother sold a slightly used reel for a friend. He got more than what the friend had paid for it. My brother also knew of a few stores in Canada that had new ones (model was no longer available). He went up and bought 15 or so and made a killing selling them on Ebay.

my most favorite baitcasting reel i have ever used, i purchased off of ebay for half the price of what i found it for retail..brand new, in the box, in plastic, all papers, warranty card, reel oil, etc....the reel is an abu garcia ambassadeur morrum m5600c...dudes, a super sick reel..btw, i paid about $112 and the best price i was finding retail was two and a quarter..super happy, have used ebay a lot, really pretty secure and safe if the buyer is responsible and does their homework

You don't know what you get.
I just purchased a reel the seller indicated was new, the picture of it on the ad showed it in the package.
The reel arrives, and I go to take the reel out of the package, and I note that someone else has also gotten in to the packaging. And, when I pull the reel out, it's not only been used, it still has line on it!
My experience with ebay has generally been positive. However, I've been stiffed (paid for but didn't get my items) once, almost stiffed another time (I had to call them repeatedly to get them to send the item), had used items represented as new, and have had great experiences.
It's a risk dealing with someone you don't know for an item they may not have? What's your recourse if they don't deliver?
However, with that said, I'll continue to buy things on ebay. But, it's a calculated risk.
