You just gotta love those over-achieving summer runs. Here's a summer run that picked up 3 of our baits!

My bait got hit first, but after three very rapid headshakes, there was nothing. Thinking the fish spit me out, I didn't set the hook and kept on dragging my bait. In the 5 seconds that it took me to realize that the fish probably still had my bait in it's mouth and was just swimming along with us, the fish just inhaled the next two baits. Number two bait started to get hit, followed by number 3. About the same time as all this was happening, the fish finally put some pressure on one of the lines, and we all pretty much set the hook at the same time.

Poor fish tried to put a fight, but with three lines coming out of it's mouth, the fight didn't last too long.

Here are a couple of untouched, non-altered, NoPhotoshopNeeded, photos. The first bait (mine) is the hook in the corner of the fishes mouth. The other two baits were swallowed.





That was one super over-acheiving fish! Gotta love summer run fishin!

Oh heck, since I am here, I might as well post a few more Grip N Grins and give away some more trade secrets.

4 of us in the boat. The river was high and the fish were not holding in the "usual" spots. Once again, if you were willing to use your brain a bit, the fishing was good. We limited out (+2 releases and a good half dozen misses) on steelheadn and pulled out two acceptable springers.

Here's my largest summer run of the year. Probably went 12 pounds. I am trying to make this fish look bigger in the photo. Please, no comments about my dorky Filson Hat. I got enough of those yesterday!



Stlhdr1 allowed me to take a buddy of mine with us yesterday. He's an unemployed engineer that loves to fish, but not very good at the catching part. He had never caught a steelhead before. His first fish was part of the 3 baits fish. We gave him 1/3rd credit for that fish! Late in the day, with 6 fish in the boat, and needing 2, we hit a double to end the day. One of these fish bit his bait, and I got to watch the whole thing. It was really cool to see the lights come on when his brain finally said "that is what a fish bite feels like". Here's a photo with his first steelhead.

I once had about a 12 pound winter run hen slam me on the drift, I set the hook and nothing. Found out my leader had cut off on her teeth. I quickly tied a new one and slam again next cast, brought her in and my previous leader was still in her mouth too swallowed. Greedy pig.
I also once caught about a 5 pound steely with a full leader, about a 2 inch spin n glow, all attached to a big pyramid sinker already hooked in his mouth. Dragging that around and still couldn't resist hitting.

Also, I know right where those Pics were taken and where the fish hold on high cold water....I'm guessing there were no bankies walking around out to their chest.

That fish was definetly suicidal, the tonsil shot was kind of pornografic though. Nice fish Parker, I am just jealous that you are fishing and I am working.

Nice fish. I got a steelhead on the Cowlitz several years back that took my bait and the guy downstream of me.

two winters ago i hooked one on a plug , half way in , breaks me off, retied new plug, cast it in, 5 seconds later, fish on, half way in again it comes unhooked and when i reeled in i had both plugs hooked together. go figure.

That was certainly the first that I've seen or heard of in all the years of fishing, 3 baits one fish. We've done 2 baits one fish twice on summer runs and once on a springer, but 3 baits one fish.................. Freaky... Too bad I wasn't in the water at the time could have been 4 baits one fish! But then again I wouldn't have been snoozing and missed the bite, Parker...... :p

All in all it was a fun day, we certainly had to work hard for our 8 fish. That higher water sure makes fishing confusing....
