A few days ago, I just returned from my first trip to Sitka. Unfortunately I was not involved in catching one of those huge fish. The day before I arrived a 74 1/2 lb king was caught and while I was there, 3 more 70 + kings were taken. I fished on a friend's boat and we did alright though and caught limits of kings (ave 25 lbs) each day with several releases and a few silvers. Our second day fishing was pretty hot with a hook up about every 10 -15 minutes. The third day started out well but died off until later in the afternoon when it turned on again. Severe tide changes were surely an influence. All of the fish were completely stuffed with candle fish. The weather held up fine and the scenery is absolutely fantastic. The halibut hadn't moved into the area that we were fishing yet though the charter boats were hitting them on the outside. I would highly recommend Sitka for saltwater salmon fishing.

Lets hope that we find a few of those out at Westport this year. I hope to better myself this year, one never knows.

I was emailed a photo of that 74 lb king. The smaller ones were 15-20 lbs. Would be nice if they frequented our waters.....
