My family and I are taking a trip to Seward in late August . We will be stayin at Millers landing. Does anyone have any tips on fishing the bay or bank access on the Kenai or Kasilof? How is fishing late August?
thank you

Well first of all you picked a pretty good spot, my wife and I spent many weekens at Millers Landing before moving out of the State. In fact we will be going there on July 7-9 for a little fishing ourselfs. Back to your question.

Late August is a bit past the salmon action in Res. Bay, but you should be able to pick-up some silvers still. When the run is in full swing I have caught plenty off the beach just to the right of the boat launch, and further around the corner towards the cove. Also try at the falls on t he way out to Millers. Buy some pixie's 7/8 oz green and pink body's. Also you can use the "typical Alaskan" method with a grey fly. That is code for force feeding. While I can neither confirm or deny the method... oh wait I have caught hundreds of Salmon that way.

Anyway enjoy your time in AK, and don't forget your rain gear!

You'll be at the latter end of things for the Kasilof silvers and the first run of Kenai silvers.

For the Kasilof, try fishing around the Conluence of Crooked Creek soaking eggs or floating them under a bobber in the couple of eddies you'll find there. Personally, for banking it, I'd look more towards the smaller streams to the south. You'll have better access to water that will hold more fish and with much cleaner water conditions, you can do some casting instead of soaking \:\)

If I'm not mistaken, the silver run in Seward is a terminal run with no place to go. I believe the locals legally "fish" for them from the bank by the marina with a method you can learn rather quickly. It involves a treble, and some hollow core lead.....purely a meatfest which I have no problem with, but may not be the type of fishing you are looking for.

FYI, this is the time when you can really start to target the monster 'bows on the upper Kenai. They are alot of fun.
