Jerry:

I'm thinking of picking up one of these to for the summer. Last year a buddy of mine purchased a brand new Tekota for B-10 and I used it a couple times and was impressed with it's line capacity, silky smooth drag, and durability.

The only negative thing about the reel was we could never get the drag tight enough to stop the line from slowly (click.......click........click) coming of the reel while trolling the divers in the strong Columbia currents, but hey when you got a fish on every 10 minutes what does that matter  .

Also played around with the reel at the shimano booth during the sportsmen show and was impressed with the dealers sales pitch. The pitch was that it was more versatile then the Shimano Tritons but didn't break the bank like the Calcutta TE. The new Tekota and Talora rod combo is a B-10 match made in heaven.

Jerry i would strongly reccomend purchasing one and trying it out. The drag system is second to none and the big crank is really cool also. I think the line capacity on the tekota 500 is about the same as the Triton 200 but unlike the Triton the drag does not slip. Let me know what ya think if you purchase.

Fraser is on the forecast "reel" soon, oops there goes the zipper lip! I'll have to take a second mortgage on the house though to buy the license.

They're great reels in or out of the salt (silky smooth drag)--I'd personally spend a little extra and get one with a line counter if I was buying a new one. The only problem is I don't think they're available in left handed models (if that's a concern to you).

Jerry,

Brought one up north to Sitka this year to put it through the real test and it has been great. Drags are silky smooth and after a month of 8-10 kings on that reel alone every day it hasn't shone to have had any problems so it's good in my book.

The resort I work for bought 100 Tekota 500LC's and most of the guides have been using them, they are nice reels but we are having some problems with surging drags and have had a few line counter problems, in the first 3 weeks of the season I've heard of 1 that seized, overall, I would highly recommend them because most people that buy them won't be using (and abusing) them like we do.

JG...take a look at the Quantum "Cabo"..really a sweet saltwater reel with a special lubing porthole...Great power for a light tackle set up.

So what do people think about the Shimano Cardiff? Wouldn't be a saltwater reel for me. Just might be able to get one cheap.

The Tekodas worked flawlessly for us at Neah Bay. The drag is definately silky smooth, the line counter was accurate and I was surprized how well the reel cast. The handle was super comfortable for reeling up butts. I was totally happy with my purcase from TED's.
