Going down to Hartstene Island over the fourth. My girlfriends dad says there are no dungeness crab around the Island, and even went so far as to bet a bottle of Crown on it.

Looking at the chart around the Island I can pin point a few areas that look good, like the areas around McMicken Island, and around Squaxin Island.

Iwill have (8) rings, and ten pounds of chicken thighs.

Don't think I will need a bottle of Crown, but will bring one just in case.

What do you say guys? Can some one help me out?

Thanks in advance.

I've never caught a keeper dungee to date on the inside of Harstine on Pickering Passage. Hopefully you'll have better luck on the outside. Inside is all rock crab.
Let us know how the outside near mcmicken shakes down...

Go get some crab from up here put them in one of your rings--the last one you pull. Say how about we double on this one --better use a crab trap.

Thanks for all that responded.

On the bright side, I will be drinking crown.

I thought about the local crab, but so has he. He knows me better than I thought.

Thanks for the follow up Aunty.

How about a little something from downriggen?

I've heard good things about the Nisqually delta but haven't ever done well there. In fact, I've never caught a crab there. Pulled in a few ring traps a couple years ago that were full of flounder but that was it. Anyone else have success down there?

I seen to recall a couple years ago hearing about a guy that got busted for poaching dungeness crab and geoducks from the Nisqually delta area. Apparantly he'd been doing it for years and selling everything overseas. If this really happened then I can only assume that there is some decent crabbing down there.

If crabbin on the delta be carefull or you will loose your gear. The flats are shallow and many find the need to set gear near the "ledge" and it drops off in a hurry.

Isn't the 4th of July going to bring on some of the lowest tides in the history of the world?

Harstine is a tough game for Dungies... Tons of Red Rock. Blackmouth in November is different \:D

I was going to mention the Delta too. Try out fairly deep (about 100') near the tracks to the east. Another spot worth a go is the south end of Ketron. The island will provide a lee on the flood tide.
