I recently saw an ad for a Klakamus driftboat. Could anyone give me some info. on this crafts background. I could not find any web related articles about it.

As you can tell..there are some pretty strong opinions on both sides of the isle.

As a wood DB owner (not in the water, ..yet) I did a bunch of reseach before buying. In honesty, I bought the boat I did as it was too good to pass up, BUT, after much research I had settled on the fact it was a ClackaCraft I would have bought if the deal I was offered had not come along.

Aluminum boats are strong, effecient and cost effective. But cold in cold weather

Fiberglass boats are equally as strong, warmer in cold weather and just as effecient.

Both of the above have numerous options available.

Wood boats are warm and strong, but probably won't take a "hit" as well as aluminum or glass.

If the price was right, and the boat was in good shape, frankly I wouldn't hesitate to buy one. Please understand I speak from very limited hands-on experience, but I've done a ton of reading on the subject on DB's of all makes.

I've seen ALOT of aluminum DB around with cracks,dents and patched holes in them. Hmmm wonder why they do not repair them, maybe because it cost an arm and a leg and your Lamiglas rod to repair!
Fiberglass boats are pennies to repair to even NEW condition, compared to aluminum. Glass DB are a better investment in my opinion.
