My buddy from Florida witnessed this last weekend. I guess a brand new boat is too slippery to be backed down the ramp with the strap unhooked. On top of it all, it left an 8' gelcoat skid mark! Ouch.

All dressed up and no where to fish ;\) ;\)

My neighbor has a 24 trophy cudddy with twin 225 merc son it. His garage is 1000' plus from my house. One day I hear his Outboards just roaring at what sounds like full throttle. I go over and ask whats up. He says the boat will not get up on a plane so something must be wrong with the motors. They sound fine to me. He has no water hooked up to them and runs them for 20 to 30 minutes and then I hear him drive off. A few dayts later I ask him if he ever found the problem. He said the bilge was full of water because he left it outside all winter. He never looked in the bilge or turned on the pump. He Also forgot to put the plug in on lake Kachess and by the time he figured it out water was coming onto the deck. He made it to the lauch and had to piss some people off by driving his trailer like a madman between lauching boats to get it on before it sunk. You may see him out at posseion this summer. He wanted a hard top on the boat but it cost 5k. So he took some galvanized plumbing pipe and screwed it too the deck making a frame. then screwed on a sheet of 4x8' Corian countertop material to the top. it weighs at least 500lbs and should make the boat more than a bit tippy.

There was this blonde female that was returning a newly acquired boat she had purchased a few days ago. She complained that the boat did not go nearly as fast as any other boats on the water. Come to find out that after she had backed the boat into the water she took the trailer off of the hitch of the truck. As most of you guys know.......the boat will still float while attached to the trailer.

I noticed real quick on my new King Trailer that those "bunks" don't take much to lose their grip. I had my boat get away from me a bit at Everett while backing down, but the boat was close enough to the water that it landed in the water as opposed to this one. That is just painful to look at.

Aunty, your web source is WRONG. The proper way to launch a boat is to back it into the water and then remove the safety chain and strap. This procedure is approved by the USCG and USPS and appears in Chapman's book, Piloting, Seamanship and Small Boat Handling.
After a long Coast Guard career, I now make a few bucks consulting on boat accidents. Unfortunately, my continued employment is assured by people trying to cut corners by bypassing established procedures.

I was camping in the lot in front of Olsens' one year and this guy took the corner up the hill at the resturant. he got about three-hundred feet up the hill when his Bayliner decided that she wanted to go back in the water. She didn't quite make it . Ended up on the shoulder next to the cocktail lounge.
