The "Snagging Hole" is now officially open for all means & methods!

Quite the show if you've never had lunch on the Homer Spit sitting along the edge of this watching!

Sounds like a true "Meat fishery".

I guess, at that point, it puts groceries in the fridge for those that need them.

shoot come on down to bremerton and you can see this on a daily basis for the sinclair kings. P.S if you wanna pay outragous fee's for a pepsi you can also take a break from all that hard salmon fishing you been doing and go ogle the local strippers in the bar ten feet from the hole. I drive by on my way to work sometimes and will see 40-60 people fishing in a creek mouth by the road that is about 6 feet wide and 30-40 feet long, elbow to elbow both sides of the bank and everyone cussin. looks like fun personallly seems like I should go down there and park with a for sale sign on my boat \:D the game warden sits up on the hill and one time I heard that he rounded up like 30-40 people and was giving them hell. don't know if they got in trouble or not

I imagine they still park the ambulance there just in case someone catches a flying weighted treble hook with their face!

Yeah, the best part of that fishery is to watch the salmon charge the opening to that lagoon.

4Salt, have you actually got one of those fish to bite?

The only time I fished there was with you Jeff 6 or 7 years ago, and you know how well we did. I wouldn't fish there again, just not my style.

They also catch them outside the lagoon in the bay using herring and spinners (like we tried) as they wait for the tide to get high enough to enter. After that they just swim around and around till someone snags 'em.

some of the guys get some pretty nice kings out in the salt, I had a buddy swear up and down they bite "you just have to know how to fish them ;\) " as soon as he pulled out the bait of choice, I decided to take the boat out by myself the thing looked like a freaking three pronged anchor. granted those fish I believe cannot make it up the creek and have already made it past the natives nets, so I am sure some people will put a little meat in there freeze by justifying that the fish will not spawn. pretty horrible looking by the time they make it there, half the time they have chunks falling off them I heard.

What a stupid thing to do IMHO!!

If there are excess hatchery fish collect them and give them away.. allowing legal snag fisheries only makes illegal snagging worse.. because if you give these people an inch they will take a mile.. this is gonna be an enforcment nightmare after the 5th...

RA3 Those same people your referring to can also use gillnets for salmon and I believe 1 skate of longline gear for halibut during their subsistence fisheries I don't remember what the limits are but am pretty sure (but not positive) that this is still taking place in certain areas must be nice to have a better resource to population ratio \:D
