Found out about this over on another site I spend time on. Seems this kid has been battling with an inoperable brain cancer, and this trip was his wish.

More on the story at:
Sick Kid Goes Fishing

I don't know what to say. Sometimes a post on an impersonal fishing web site can hit square between the eyes and have an influence far beyond its original intent. This one forced me to remember some particularly painfull experiences in my life. As often as I would like to permanently forget, the harsh reality forces me to more fully appreciate the fragility and wonderment of life.

Thanks Mike

Being a father of my own eleven year old boy, who is healthy and active, I can't begin to imagine how difficult it must be for Bridger and his family to be faced with such adversity.

What wonderful organizations the Benefit4kids and the Outdoor Wish program must be to bring some joy to this young man. He's been dealt such a tough hand, and the photos prove how much this opportunity has meant to him.

Bridger's smile says it all, and it reminds us of what life's all about.

To all those involved who put this trip together......GREAT JOB!!!!!!!

this may be off topic, but this made me think of an idea I had a year or so ago and it got pretty much shot down due to lack of support from local sponsor's, but I wanted to start a little fishing program for at risk youth, I know growing up the only thing that kept me straight was that all the crackhead friends I had would not go fishing with me \:\) I think that youth can be really moved by getting involved in fishing. I know for myself, it allows time to reflect on the past week and prepare for the next without sitting on the couch stressing. This story is awesome, I really hope the guide in question did this out of the goodness of his heart and did notdrain the system that makes this sort of thing possible. I know we all have to make a living, but as evident here sometimes we can help others live to.

Howdy all,

Bridger got to do some salmon fishing up in Alaska, and it looks like he did well!

An article on the entire trip is at:

Bridgers Trip

Just an FYI: The wife and I are planning on hosting a B4K (Benefit4Kids) Coho Derby on the Skagit this October with all donations going to the Benefit4Kids Foundation.

It seems that recentlly there have been many posts and stories on the fishing forums about sick kids and fishing. It's really starting to make me feel sad. My best wishes go out to their families.

Mike, great post. Kind of puts things back in perspective.

And thanks to you Bridger for reminding us that smiles are from the heart. I'd say you've not only got a great smile but some great friends as well. Here's to many more smiles and good friends. May you live long and touch the hearts of many more just as you and your friends have touched mine.
God bless and be well.

PS.
Dan,
How's Drew?
