The Muckelshoot/Suquamish tribes have been gven the ok for a massive net fishery in the lake and the locks starting Sunday night at 11:00pm. They excpect to get so many fish that they have contracted for 3 large buyer/tenders to be on the lake at the time of their fishery. A bonus they have been asked to release all chinook that are ALIVE at the time of being brought aboard the boat.If the fish condition is as such that survival will be in question they are not required to release them at that time Remember These are protected chinook stocks that are in a dismal state of affairs. they are excpecting over 200 boats to participate. I bet this fishery will be a huge boost to the local economy, Yea Right...

200 net boats? Where did you get Your info? How many fish are they allowed? Seems awful excessive. Who the hell is running our fisheries. The commercial fishermen? The WDFW over estimated all our spring chinook runs. Hopefully the sportfishermen don't take it in the shorts to hard here.

Info is from the tribal fisheries head honcho Mike Mahavalich. Known him for 10+yrs, spent some time on the tribal enforcement boat with him during elliott bay test fishery a few yrs back. The last sockeye fishery in the lake brought every floating device that a tribal member could put a net on. they were towing 12ft lunds to the shore due to near sinking from having to much weight in the boat. any tribal member can fish with a net in this fishery. how many tribal members are there? 2 tribes muckleshoots/suquamish. Call 1-800-fish-now

Slaughter is very accurate. I would love to see someone follow the tons of fish they get from the water to mountain of rotting flesh that will be left behind.
Anybody ever recall the 60,000 lbs of Salmon left to rot about three years ago....
What a disgusting rape of resources under the guise of "stewardship"

Aside from the sockeye slaughter, with all of the debate over the survival rate on sport c-n-r fish, I wonder what sort of expectations the gamies have for gill net c-n-r chinook....2%, maybe 5%?
