Wow. That's a haul. What a great weekend! I'm very jealous - if I posted my totals for fishing here out of Seattle this weekend it would look like :

Friday evening (two fishermen) and all morning Sunday (one fisherman)

Two strikes - lost

about eight flounders - released

fourteen male Dungeness and one male red rock crabs kept, countless undersized and females released.

One sunburn caught.

Neah bay sounds like the place to go.

Hey Cast N Blast--

Sounds like you had a great time. It's a total blast up there. It's my favorite fishery, but it is a bit of a trip.

I was up there on the opening and caught mostly chinook. Since you were "targeting" chinook and only caught 4 keepers in 3 days, it sounds like things have slowed from July 1st. Were your results typical from others that you saw and talked to?

Also, why did you release chinook-- were those undersized or were you selectively fishing for clipped chinook.

I'm just wondering if I should target Sekui now or maybe La Push for kings?

Thanks!

L2F:

Good question, we were tossing back smaller kings in hopes of finding some big boys. I suppose it kinda worked as we sent a few 8-10 lb fish back and ended up with the 20 (Thurs) and the 18 (Fri) to finish our king limits. (BTW, the 18 was a hatchery fish). We did not even go way out into the ocean. We fished the east entrance of the straight along the shoreline around the corner.

As far as other reports, alot of guys had 8-10 lb kings and they were picking them up in the ocean, particulary at Umatilla. Although there was talk that most of those fish came at 150 feet deep.

As far as my King #'s go, we limited both Thursday afternoon (20 and 10) and Friday (18 and 16). On Saturday morning we only fished one area and then ran the boat back home. If we had time to hit other areas, I'm sure we could have found more kings.(although probably not the size of the thurs and Friday fish)

Mike:

Cell coverage is real limited up there, I think the Verizon folks get through but that may be all.

Everywhere up there is putting out fish. Some guys are going to umatilla, others to spots further out and some guys are fishing mushroom rock while otehr stayed right at wadah (sp?) island. Everyone is getting into fish.

You will have a ball up there.

Andrew:

Alaska huh? I hope you are getting a little time in for fishing?
