Started trolling right around 6:00 am at the point then moved to the slag pile and finally Dalco. Fished all the usual gear: flashers followed by glow hootchies, plug cut herring and a variety of spoons. Never tried a plug. Fished 25’ down to 150’. Our group managed to scrape up 2 small shakers, 1 medium sized shaker and 1 dog fished.

It was slow for everyone, but probably more so for the trollers as the moochers were sitting on top of the sweet spot and I didn’t want to be a jerk and run right through the middle of the pack. By the time we decided to switch over to mooching it was a case of too little, too late.

It’s been awhile since I fished Pt Defiance and I’ve forgotten how popular mooching is down there. This is where I started fishing as a kid so I should have been thinking ahead. If I were going again I would be on the water by 4:30-4:45 (the bite seemed to die shortly after 7:00 am) and plan on mooching/jigging the majority of the time.
