Don't leave your crab pots to soak over-night.

I left a pot near Lilliwaup in 52ft of water with 100ft of weighted line. I returned to the location marked on my GPS but no bouy in the area.

This really chaps my hide!!!

It's really a sad state of affairs. Last week I shared that the hatchery(chinook) brats were retuning to the canal. Then someone helps themself to my gear.
I still hope that lots of people are able to share in the quality fishing in the lower canal.
The resource belongs to everyone.

I lost 4 pot's to thieves last Saturday off Ocean Shores. Left them here before so I know it wasn't currents. Same thing as slab hunter, someone took em when I left them overnight.

I called to report it to the state patrol. Just got voice mail directing me to WDFW. Left a message.
I realize this is probably a low priority. But I still hope they have time to get someone out there. 'Cause it sure is frustrating!!!

Sorry to hear Slab.
Trap setups arent cheap, plus the effort to bait them and get them out there.

How about warning no matter where you are or what you're doing!
Where in the h@ll did all these idiots come from. Who gave their parents the right to reproduce? Makes a guy want to find a remote island in the middle of nowhere . I used to have high bank waterfront could watch my pots sitting on the couch. I watched one guy pulling my gear so I yell at him he yells obscenities back takes all the crab and leaves. I get the boat # call WSP and get told they're to busy to bother with this, next weekend same guy same thing all over again. So I pull my gear and hide it up on the beach take off one of the buoys and line, tie it to a big rock with yuck fou painted on it and reset it, The jerk actually had the nerve to come pull it the following weekend the guy and his buddy were really whooping it up, it was all they could do to pull it they thought they had the motherload. Ive never laughed so hard in my life you should of heard them screaming at me when they got it up to the surface.

Nice idea.
Unfortunately they took the whole setup (pot, line, and bouy with a mast.)
I'm sure whoever took it didn't get very many crab with the gear. The area had only been yielding one or two keepers per pull.

Seems nothing is safe anymore.

Have you managed to get them in the boat lately? Launched right behind you the other night, went 1 for 2.

been doing well, did lose two nice Fish in one week last week, it still haunts me! both made nice runs then went down to the bottom to sulk and park, just standing there with what feals like moderate pressure then the hooks pull out, maybe my new rod has a little more power than I think??

dunno.. hate the ones that get away they reeeeally mess with a guys head.

stayed off the water this week as I am headed up to BC in the morning.

Tight lines, Bud.

Yah them thieves,

Ya know some of them have taken to a new tactic. What they'll do is take the pot and just throw the float and the line back in the water. Or go as far as taking the line and the pot and unteing the float and throwing it back in the water.

I know this is what they are doing cause last year I found 5 floats in the hood and so far this year 3. On one of the three, they went as far as breaking the little dog collar clip that held the line to the pot. Then they threw the float and the line back in the water. And you know they just kept that $20.00 pot. There must be a big maket for used $20.00 crab pots. Damn thieves.

Nivtup,

Salmon fishing has been good. Landed three out of the four hooked by free time and myself. We ran the spoons shown in the other post. One fish hooked at 30'. The others came at 55-60'. \:D

It's pretty sad that you can't even go crabbing with out the possibility of getting ripped off.
Good luck,

what do you suppose they are doing with all of these pots? I have not seen anyone selling pots. Do you personalize them in any way to I.D. them if you were to ever stumble across them again? It sure would be great to find the cork socker trying to turn these pots for a quick buck.
My sister-in-laws boyfriend's dad was just ripped off by his 18yo son. dad was out of town deal with the passing of his mother in law. the kid cleaned the house out of anything he could pawn. some of the top items were 7rifles, an aircompressor, and a 8000watt honda generator. He sold all the stuff to supprot his meth habit. I certainly hope he was able to purchaes enough to overdose on. There is no room in my world for thieves and even worse, junkies.

Knock on wood, have never lost a pot yet, but have had to run off a few people that were checking things out a little too close. Got some bs about them thinking they were their pots, but there was not another pot around for quite some ways.......As crappy as the crabbing can be, and the theives it really is criminal ............Fishy...
