I recently purchased a 9'6" Lamiglas float rod, the one specifically designed for jigs. It's a great rod, I just need another one and I am wondering about the Loomis rods. Any thoughts on my options, I appreciate the help.

I have a Loomis, love it. I prefer 10'6" though.

What lb test do you usually run? Spey blanks built into float rods work great, you have the extra length for line control and still have the beef to stick it to them.

The Loomis STR1263C is the rod you want. It's 10'-6" and balances length and action perfectly.

I got a loomis 11' 4'' and think it is the best rod for floating ever. Two years ago I got a lamiglass 10'4'' and really liked it. The lamiglass is a baitcast and the loomis is a spin. The difference that 10 inches makes is worth the extrac cash. It is rated 6-12 lbs. I could go on and on but bottom line, the rod costs a lot but has given me everything I have wanted out of a float rod. Draw backs...sometimes that extra 10 inches gets caught in the limbs above. Oh yeah the casting ability with the 11' 4'' is great too.

I have a Loomis 11'6" float rod. I have had it for about 6 years and just love it. The extra length is worth it and it is light so easy to fish with all day.

I have a question. How come 13ft float rods sound so rare out on the West coast? The difference in line control betwen and 11ft rod and 13 I think is huge, same difference between a 13ft and a 15ft. Especially on some of your river systems that extra few feet could help out a lot. The new loomis 13'4" would be a nice west coast float rod, has tons of beef to it. Getting a spey blank built into a float rod like steeliefreak said is also another good idea. I had my 13ft lamiglass spey rod converted into a float rod before going out to the oly pennisula. Worked out better than I thought. Didn't have any more fatigue at the end of the day any more than when fishing one of my 15footers. Handled the fish really nice and made BC style casting with the float reel a breeze.

Hey Downtime give me a ring, and don't tell me you have to charter this weekend.

Sage has also came back out with some of there older float rods that would serve well for you westerners.

Down time! smaller avitar dude! ;\)

I use a Loomis Str1263c Gl 3, It makes a great float rod with power pro and also drift fishes like a madman. All I have to do is carry a spare curado with mono and switch it over to drift! One rod dual aplications. If you really want to go hard core float fishing, get a loomis 13'4' three piece with a skamania handle (sorry I forget the mod. #) and put an Islander Steelheader centerpin.
