According to the regs it does not open till next Monday. It has opened on the 8/16 everyday for the last 5 years.
I was working out there a week ago though and saw a few jumpers already, not alot, but a few. Some years it is decent on the opener, other years its a week or two after it opens. Unless we get a big rain and they all enter the "snag zone".

I'll be darn!! You are right! I miss read the regs. Glad I did not give it a try.

From the regs:

"Quilcene/Dabob Bay Fishery Aug. 16-Oct. 15 No min. size. Daily limit 4 COHO only. Handling Rule in effect for all species of (see below) SALMON except COHO. "

When I go I will post how I did.

Thanks//
Charlie

I was up there this weekend.Saw several people fishing.I never checked but was told it opened last sat.
Did see a few fish jump.

Also watched the Indians bring their crab pots in from Dabob bay, said they got over a 1000 lbs. They moved the pots out of Quilcene bay because they were doing lousy.

TightLines -

I was out there Sunday for an hour with a friend and his kids. Had one take down and that was it. About a dozen boats working the area, but I didn't see any nets out.

Good luck.

Been out several times. Fish the early mornings for biting fish using trolled spinners, or mooching herring. Jig with darts, or buzz bombs but this is mostly a snagging game. Lots of fish have moved into the river lately and there is a ton of pressure on the weekends. Lots of enforcement working the banks undercover, so release those snagged ones!

I have fished this area several times this year including this morning. In the salt water, it has been mostly a trolling a cut plug herring very slowly near the big rock on the west beach (approx 1 mile south from the launch toward the mouth of the bay). We got 5 fish there about 12 days ago. It is mostly an early morning fishery. After 9 am the jiggers have the fish pretty riled up. Most of the action lately has been at the mouth of the river and is mostly a lining or in many cases a snagging fishery in the shallow water of the river mouth( walk in fishing ) The fish are getting bigger and many are starting to get a red tinge to them. Game enforcement is usually pretty tight here, but was not around on Labor Day as there was a lot of blatant snagging. There are a lot of good size and pretty fresh fish entering the river everyday.

Well, I want to report the fishing was great, the catching wasn't so good. We put in at Kingston and was off Jefferson PT at day light. Lots of bait showing on the surface and bait balls on the sounder. Moved around the corner to Indianola and fished closer to the beach heading back toward Jeff Head, with no luck. We counted 31 boats fishing Jeff Head.

We then picked up and headed over to join the party fishing off Edmonds and connected with one nice fish which was lost near the boat. All in all a good day on the water and my friends had a good time and a fishing story to tell when he returns to PA.

Thanks for everyone's help in getting me into fish for my friend.

Still looking forward to getting over and fishing Quilcene and Dabob Bay.
