That doesnt sound good but I dont think that is the first time they have had problems last winter I was reading the WDFW in season hatchery escapement reports, and in the December 29/03 release I noticed that the Quinault National fish hatchery had a return of 2075 winter steelhead as of December 17 and had a mortality of 1839 fish thats a loss of nearly 90%.

The mortality that occurs in Dec. is the hatchery not live spawning the fish.

Between the hatcheries and the net pens I am surprised there has not been a fish disease pandemic yet. You would think that we would have learned something by now from years of blasting cattle, swine, fowl producution with anti biotics as well.

I guess that clears that issue up I thought it was some kind of natural die off,the pike place market thing makes sense though, the state used to sell excess silvers at voights creek hatchery to pet food companys.
