The fam & I are headin there this weekend for some end of summer camping, fishing & whatever. I'd like to be able to sneak away , just the boy (10yrs) & I and get him into a silver or 2. Are there any decent beach fishing areas? If so, what's the preferred tactic, buzz bombs, float & herring, spoons?

Thanks for the awsome site!

Port Townsend has some great beach fishing, right in Fort Worden State Park. Go to the Point Wilson Lighthouse, throw a spoon or a buzz bomb and you have a pretty good shot at a coho. Most people fish the east side of the spit, although a couple of years ago fishing was awesome along the northwest side.

So far this year, the early morning tide changes have produced best.

Good luck.

Can you recommend any good places to boat fish around there? I wonder if one could anchor off the beach in that area and toss spinners, etc...

If you camp at Ft. Warden or Flagler on Marrowstone, you can launch at either park.

I would suggest trolling the east side of Pt. Wilson. This use to be a very popular spot, but I haven't seen many boats doing it lately. That also gives you the option of anchoring and casting. Same would be true of the area East of the Marrowstone lighthouse and east of there.

If your boat is big enough, you can also run across to Whidbey and fish the shoreline for silvers. Directly across form Wilson is Casey, and then south of there is good all the way to Lagoon Point and beyond.

Someone else may be able to provide you with some more current information, but that should get you started.

Good Luck!

I've tried the Pt. Wilson area from a boat, but never caught silvers-- only chinook and last year, pinks. I could never figure out why it was so hard to catch fish from a boat there.

Your best bet from a boat is to run to Lagoon Point or try over by Marrowstone Island.

\:\) It's been awhile since I've fished there but this time of the year there are usually large candlefish blooms just inside the point at Point Wilson. Have caught kings just outside the point in the rips trolling but used to have better luck jigging "Pt. wilson" darts right on the bottom inside the point but out of range of the casters on shore. Of course you could keep kings back then \:\)

Thanks for the info re: ft. warden.

What about the Dungeness spit or Ediz hook areas? or anywhere else in between?
