Well it seems I am going to have a good supply of eggs to cure up for this winter,
What are your favorites?
Different cures for Steelhead and Salmon, Kings vs Silvers etc.
I have used Borax and Procure, I am needing to go to a new level of expertise, so let's hear it.
BTW I read the recent post on curing, and the method looks to be an improvement, so I am working on technique as I write this, I got a suprise deposit of about 8 skiens this afternoon and started wondering what else I can do to excel.

Ya Philphac is correct about getting the "egg cures" book by scott haugen it is very good. Also I like to cure my eggs using the jar method listed on the back of the Pro Cure bottle. This will leave them very wet for Salmon under a float. If you plan on using them for drift fishing just add some Borax the night before you go to dry them up a little. Now if I can just get the prawn thing down so I don't have to use all my eggs up on the summer runs I will be the man

Egg cures are almost as secret as zipper lip fishing holes...but I'll give up most of my cure(s)...
Start out with a good batch of eggs...clean the fish, clean the eggs, get all the blood out. I put them on ice in my cooler, but after putting them in plastic bags, I wrap them in newspaper or a paper bag to keep them from sitting directly on the ice.
When I get home, I rinse them again, cut the skeins in half lengthwise, and lay them out on paper to warm up and dry a bit.
Next, I really bury them in powdered Fruit Punch Gatorade...and I'm not kidding about that.
After four to eight hours, depending on the size of the eggs/skeins, most of the powder will have been sucked up by the eggs and the water coming out of them, and they are pretty much done...I put them in 20 Mule Team Borax, a few bucks for a big box in the laundry section at the grocery store.
The "secret" part comes in after the Gatorade and before the Borax, and that's what chemicals, scents, or flavors to add.
That part is trial and error, or by hook or crook, and you'd have to get some kind soul to either hook you up with a few ideas, or go by trial and error like the rest of us have.
These eggs don't last forever, but most of my bait doesn't have to, as it gets used up within a few months. I don't freeze them...I keep them wrapped in plastic, then paper, in a drawer in the fridge.
I told Parker and Kid Sauk about the GatorEggs the last time I fished with them...they laughed...but who caught the only fish that day, fellas?
As far as commercial cures go, I've always gone with Pro-Cure...seems to work fine for me, though I put it on a lot heavier than the directions call for, and rinse it off quicker than the directions call for. I'm not sure if it's due to impatience, or what, but it works for me.
Fish on...
Todd

It's the same stuff...unless you have more dollars than sense, don't buy borax at a sporting goods store...it's the same stuff that you can buy very cheaply by the box at the grocery store... A friend of mine who worked at a shop (both he and the shop shall remain nameless ) said that they would go to Safeway, buy 20 Mule Team Borax for $2 a box, put it into clear bags and sell it at the store...at about a 500% profit. Buy it at the grocery store... Fish on... Todd

They probably would have - had I even had my line in the water at the time we drifted by the little inside slot where Todd yanked out that tiny lifeless boot of a brat. To say that was a "slow day" on the Sky, was a gross understatement.
