I have recently tried this method for steelhead, but my bait tends to collect moss off of the bottom even when I use a corky with it. Any suggestions to stop this problem?

you could be using to big of a diver.

i fish divers and shrimp alot, i like the brads divers both standerd and magnum.

if the water is lowwer or shallow the std. will work better.

and unless the water is moving real slow you will most likely need a spin n glow.

good luck,
pete

Index, do you ever use plain bait behind a diver? I did finally catch one with this technique, but I was using a shrimp and a #14 corky. Do corkies work well, or does something with a spinning action catch more fish?

when the water was real low i would take a #1 hook and tie a bit of flashaboo into the bait loop on a 7' leader then run a shrimp tail all the way up on the line then string a jensen egg up on the line and put a puff ball on the shank of the hook.

i've had some success with this method but found it seems to work best when you anchor up at the top of a slot and back bounce it through useing the diver insted of lead.

if the waters not moving to fast as you back it down it will float the hook and shrimp up just enough to get the fishs attention.

if the water is moving fast i think you don't have enough floatation with out a spin and glow and your presentation stay right on the bottom.

this is just my opinion, and it could be wrong so i would have to say "just play with it and find what works for you".

pete

ps. if you try this by yourself half the fun is trying to net the fish with a 7' leader ;\)
