I'm thinking of loading up my 7 and 9 year olds with the wife and driving to the peninsula to salmon fish. Is the fishing good enough to take the drive (from Yakima) and keep the interest of kids right now?
Any tips and or advice is appreciated. I'd love to get their arms sore from silvers.

Go to Sekiu. There should be lot's of action on silvers. You can only keep the clipped ones but your young ones will have a lot of fun wading through the non-clipped ones. Silvers up there will hit just about anything. From cut plug herring to spoons, hootchies, flies, etc. Depends on whether you use downriggers or not. You don't need them at Sekiu. Three, four or five ounces of lead at a fast clip will nail them. They should be feeding close to the surface. Most troll out in the middle of the strait but try circles in front of the caves in about 100 to 150 feet of water first. I have caught many monster hook nose silvers there. I always camp and stay at Van Ripers. Camping is first come first served. They have nice showers down by the office and bathrooms both at the camp ground and at the showers. Plus they are real nice people who will tell you all you need to know to catch fish. And no, I have no financial interest in Van Ripers I just like the way they run things. If you don't have a boat they rent kickers that are pretty much unsinkable.

launched at sekiu 7 am 8-26-04
trailered the boat at 11 am 8-26-04
two poles /people and 18 fish (not counting shakers) to find 4 factory fish
thats about 1 hookup every 13-14 minutes
it kept me interested \:\)

green/yellow hootchie behind a white dodger
and a fresh (point defiance marina) herring slice so they'd hold on good from surface to 80 ft down
4 -12 lbs with most about 6-8 lbs
bring a dehooker and have fun

You might have caught more if you weren't fishing for Factory fish. :p
