I am trying to get the fishing thing down here in washington. I don't have a boat, but my waders serve me well. I love fishing for the salmon in the rivers and at hoodsport hatchery. Can anyone provide any tips for me in these areas. The chums were fun, but I am looking for some silvers or kings? Thank for any info you can give.

There have been a few recent threads concerning the Nisqually river in recent days. The king run in that river should be happening about now. It's right there in your neighborhood (Ft. Lewis)

I think that some directions to specific locations to fish were even given out in some of the posts. If you're looking to catch a king, I'd say that it might be a good place for you to check out.

Good luck. \:\)

Thanks,
I will dig through recent posts and see what I can come up with. I have been looking at the archives from 2003 and, after laughing at some, I havent seen much on the Big N. I am not sure if this is possible, but if you or anyone else knows of any areas with a little less people and about the same number of fish, that would be great. I promise not to be a snagger, as I see and have found that it is A. not very sportsmanlike and B. just plain stupid. Thanks for the help though, I will do more homework.

There's two things you'll quickly learn about river salmon fishing in Washington state, Hungry:

1 - If the fish are in... EVERYBODY knows about it and will be there fishing with you.

2 - If you want to find solitude while still catching fish, you'll have to do much research and exploring or buddy up with someone "in the know" cause most folks don't like to give away their "secret" locations, especially over the internet.

It can be intimidating going to a new river you've never fished before, but a little common sense and the willingness to get off of the beaten path can pay big dividends in more ways than one. \:\)

Hey salt,
First off, I want to say that I really appreciate the help. I have been searching for anything, and getting nowhere but in the middle of combat fishing with three hundred anglers and 50 fish...YUK!
So I have a pair of waders and a good set of legs and feet. Do you think that going down or up river from the Old Mounts bridge be of any assistance, or should I just stay with the pack. I trecked through the wilderness about 8 years ago in the nooksack hitting the LATE kings there, so I am no stranger to the wilderness. Thanks for any info!
