I was hopeing I could get some tips on fishing this method. What plags work best? How much line between planer and plug?

Thanks in advance! ;\) \:D

Hotshots work well, but make sure you tune them before putting them on the side planer. Let out the minimum amount of line required to get to the depth that you want. The minimum is probably around 15 ft. You'll have to experiment for each plug. You should be able to see how deep the plug is running if the water is clear, and the plug is still near your side of the bank.

I've usually run my Hotshots further back behind the sideplane -- about 30-40 feet depending on river flow. The key to fishing it is to work it S L O W through all the holes across the river. I swear steelies hit the plug cuz they're fed up with the thing buzzing around their faces. Kinda like swatting at an annoying bee. Hook sets are just a little tougher with alot of line out but the fish generally oblige by taking off away, eliminating the slack for you. Exept when they don't, that is, and head TOWARDS the plane. Have fun!
