SUBJECT: OCEAN RECREATIONAL SALMON FISHERY: WEEK 32, August 2 - 8
On August 19, the following in-season actions were taken:
20,000 coho were traded from the commercial troll fishery between the Queets River, WA and Cape Falcon, OR to the Westport area recreational quota for 5,000 chinook from the Westport area recreational guideline.
Effective Sunday, August 29, retention of all legal-sized coho will be allowed in the recreational fishery in the Westport area (Queets River to Leadbetter Point) until the earlier of September 19 or attainment of 10,000 coho.
Effective Wednesday, September 1, retention of all legal-sized coho will be allowed in the commercial troll fishery in the area between the Queets River and Cape Falcon.
Columbia Ocean Area (including Oregon)
Ocean Area 1 (Columbia Ocean Area) opened for recreational salmon fishing on Sunday, June 27 with a quota of 101,250 coho and a guideline of 8,000 chinook. The total catch estimates for Area 1 through Sunday, August 22 are 5,951 chinook and 57,571 coho (57% of the quota).
Westport
Ocean Area 2 (Westport) opened for recreational salmon fishing on Sunday, June 27 with a quota of 74,900 coho (revised to 54,900) and a guideline of 30,800 chinook (revised to 25,800). The total catch estimates for Area 2 through Sunday, August 22 are 8,814 chinook and 15,633 coho (29% of the revised quota).
La Push
Ocean Area 3 (La Push) opened for recreational salmon fishing on Sunday, June 27 with a quota of 5,200 coho and a guideline of 1,900 chinook . The catch estimates for Area 3 through Sunday, August 22 are 1,341 chinook and 2,567 coho (49% of the sub-quota).
Neah Bay
Ocean Area 4 (Neah Bay) opened for recreational salmon fishing on Sunday, June 27 with a quota of 21,050 coho (revised to 27,650) and a guideline of 3,700 chinook. The catch estimates for Area 4 through Sunday, August 22 are 5,433 chinook and 25,762 coho (93% of the revised quota). _____________________________
Sub-quotas of 5,200 coho and 1,900 chinook are in effect in Area 3 for the time period June 27 - September 19. Effective September 25, the fishery reopens through October 10, or until attainment of the total area quota of 5,300 coho or 2,000 chinook.
