Yeah, why do you hate it? The whole purpose is for fish enhancement. Their "in water" work has to end by Nov.1.

WOW - I don't quite know what to think of that... Hope they pull out and that silt gets flushed out of the system before the fish make a push up river...

Thanks for the update.

H2O,
Comparing to your previous pictures it doesn't look like last weeks high water was much of a setback to the project....the pilings and diversion wall are still there. Is that what it looked like to you?
Seeing all the heavy equipment on the river sure doesn't feel right, but I think they are trying to do the right thing.
Thanks for the update.

H2O,

Please elaborate. Why do you hate it? And more importantly, what's the alternative?

Sincerely,

Salmo g.

Thanks for sharing photos H2O.
Has anyone floated by the project recently?
What does this mean to a guy like me who never floated the lower Hoh and about to learn the lower Hoh in October.
I'm very concerned.

SR,
I wouldn't be too concerned unless you are a complete novice on the sticks. Do you float the upper Sky (High bridge to Sultan)? If so you shouldn't have any problems on the lower Hoh. It is one of the easiest floats on the OP, probably second to the lower Bogy. There's a few boulders to miss but log jams and changing side channels are the only real hazard. Having said that, I've never seen the diversion channel except from these pics and don't know for sure how long it will be needed or what its like. In any event this area is easy to scout before you go through. Most river accidents can be prevented by scouting what you're not sure about....and walking/lining the boat past anything beyond your ability...though I doubt that will be necessary here. I'm hoping to make an Oct trip also.

i would say they've dopne a pretty good job recovering from the breakthrough...in the first photo if you look up in the top edge you can see where the new burm is.

getting around the diversion is gravy.

i hate it on a lot of levels but the realist in me doesn't see much alternative.

There are four cranes, six bulldozers, two enormous dump trucks and various other pieces of equiptment in the main river channel. That gravel bar as I know it no longer exists. I'm entitled to not like that aren't I?

As I understand it the local geology prevents moving the road....the only alternative I see is to wait out the change that takes it back away from the highway (like it used to be....that change WILL come) and repair it as necessary.

I'm sure that would create or has contributed a whole nother set of problems though.

I've settled on hating it with no good alternative to propose.

I also have my doubts as to its permanancy, I've seen that river do some crazy *hit.

Thanks, Jam Session.
Yes, I've floated the upper Sky (High bridge to Sultan) about half dozen times since I got my boat in 2003.
I really enjoy floating the upper Sky, except for three finger dikes in start up when water level is high.
Looking forward to floating and learning the lower Hoh in October! \:D
Hopefully, I'll get to play another fall fattie!
My avatar fish is a lower Hoh fall slab. \:D

H2O, I definitely understand your how you feel about this project.
I would hate it too, if there was a similar project on the upper Sky.

spotted it from the road last trip out. had put in below there and taken out at barlows. but it's nice to know you can get around it. all the lower ho is real easy to float . if your worried about a particular spot get out and scout it.
