Sad to say we had another drowning down our way today. This time in the beautiful reflecting cesspool known as Capitol Lake.

Guy was fishing for kings from a boat when he went overboard, not to be seen again. It is unclear if both guys were actually in the boat at the same time. Dive team was not able to find him since an entry point was not known. There doesn't appear to be any witnesses.

They are going to wait for him to pop up in a few days if they don't get a better location to look for him. Sounds callous but it's a little pointless and extremely difficult to locate someone when there is no known entry point and it is a big lake. It will horrify a few folks since there is a very popular jogging trail around the entire lake.

If you guys think the cracker shows are bad in some areas, check out the Capitol Lake Cracker Fest when the Kings are in. It's like a whole line of Larry the Cable Guys. They throw everything but the "Dupont Spinner" at em'. Snagging is not frowned on, it's judged on how far can one throw a chunk of lead with a big treble (Buzz bombs preferred) , length of mullet and how rotten a fish you can retain. Quite entertaining.

While it is true that this may not be the most glamorous fishery is South Sound, there are many honest anglers who watch the calender in anticipation. This years return is projected to be about 10k which gives someone without a boat, much gas money, and in some cases a job, an opportunity to catch a king from the shore. Now, your not going to find the same angler fishing from the bike path a Capital Lake as you will fishing Buoy 10, Westport, and Neah Bay, but it is important to remember that these fisherman buy licenses and gear. I think it's important for everyone to realize that the sport angler comes in may colors and needs to have opportunities like these.

I too am sad for this man's family and friends. I'm not sure how you find comfort in this but sounds like he was doing something he enjoyed.

Yeah...FC, You're right.....I was not totally serious anyway about the fisher folks. We've all fished those type of places before...Still don't like the lack of good fishing practices....It's been the second drowning down here in a week and kind of got to me.....

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

That's a great post, fc. We forget that sometimes.

Sad news....but to be honest, if some day you hear I passed on while fishing, you'll know I died a happy man.

I think I saw this one on the news. His boat was found with beer and whiskey and no fisherman.

Hey guys,
I am new at salmon fishing, and new to this board. I have noticed however that you all really frown on "crackers". From what I understand, these are basically people who are new to the sport. Like myself, we don't know as much as the rest of you. I am sure that there was a time when you all didn't either. I am in the military and love to fish. I really like this board becuase it has helped me to produce fish when I can find the time to go. I just find it amazing how you all are quick to judge people before you know the entire story. I am sure that there are guys that go out just to snag, in fact I have recently ran into one, and found it quite stupid. But, like in the military, if I know something and see someone doing something wrong, I pass the word. I guesse the point is, help people out. If you don't, even in the case of fishing, the result can be catastrophic. Not only to the anglers, but also to the sport. We could get cut off at any time from what I understand. All becuase some people wouldn't help another angler out. Please don't take this the wrong way, just help us new guys out. I love fishing, and don't want to be the one getting fished out. Thanks for the understanding!

Hey hungry...No offense to you new guys...You'll find that the term "cracker" is not meant as a racist term or even redneck. It usually implies a lack of fishing ethincs and a don't give a #@$% attitude in general. And I certainly don't mean to include new fishermen who are just learning. I think my first post in this thread explained my feelings quite well on that subject.
