First time down to the beach this year was August 29th and I hit fish within 30 minutes. I was using a buzzbomb and just fishing for the hell of it since the beach is less than a 5min walk from my house.

Since the end of August I have seen several (6 or more a night) jumping right off shore, and I'm talking about 20 feet from shore! The fish come through in schools and porpoise and jump right in front of me at high slack.

Tried some red label herring under a float but couldn't get it to stay on the hook worth a darn. Got another nice on the other night on a Zzinger and it wrapped up in the line and broke me off as I was beaching it...ooops! Got my lure back, but got my feet wet too.

How do you rig the herring under the float? I've been using about 3' of leader from a 1oz. weight and then varying the bobber stop.

Do you just let it drift or reel it in slow?

Can't believe the damn things are in so close to shore. Fun fishing by myself, but it would be nice to have some company who knows their stuff about the beach coho.

Thanks,

Justin

What beach are you fishing?. I live in Marysville and I use fresh herring and I run double hooks and run one through the lips and the other I string through the belly and let the hook hang out. PM me and let me know what beach you fish, if its local and maybe we could hook up.

Thanks, svr, I sent you a pm. It's a little windy out right now and I can see some whitecaps looking out of my deck. It has flattened out enough that I am going right now! Didn't thaw out my herring so I'm going to b'bomb it. I'll post a report later when I get back. thanks

Fishing sucked last night. Waves were wicked and a couple of cruise ships going by didn't help. Flattened out real nice close to high tide but I never saw any jumpers.

I really hope that the fish didn't get horny and head for the rivers. Just when it was starting to get interesting.

If your going to use frozen herring you need to brine it and fish it cut plug. Toss it out there and give it a couple of cranks to lift it with a little spin and then let it sit a few seconds and then a couple of cranks again. I can't believe you're a bobber/herring virgin.

Kid - sorry I haven't been able to join you out there, but I'm in the process of selling our house. My evenings have been painfully busy, to say the least. Not only that, but all my fishing gear is stored up at a storage facility near your place.

Good luck out there and don't catch too many. Save a few for when we hammer on them on the Sky!

There are some fish caught there and also from the rocks in front of the lighthouse.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I tried herring last week and only had some diagonal teethmarks for my efforts.

Buzzbombed tonight with Cigar and we got some small ones. Saw a lot of jumpers. Killer tides all this week. Going to be down there every night after work \:\)

C'mon down and fish if you like!

Yeah, summer, stop begging! Parker doesn't even have a boat. :p

I will admit that he has learned to row the drift boat pretty well over the years and he's done a helluva job picking my brain for Snoho coho secrets....actually, we kind of stumbled onto a few together ;\)

Ask parker about " booniejiggin' " or "bassmastering"

Parker it's time! Hurry up and sell that damn house. Can I buy it? Will they give me a 100 year mortgage?
