will be going thru the straits saturday coming from westport going to oly, stopping in Seattle to go to the Seahawks game. I looked at the fish & wildlife reg pages & can't tell if marine areas 4 & 5 are open or closed, it seems they are open one day, then closed, then re-opened...

just wondering if areas 4 -5 are open, any one getting any fish? or would be willing to share some co-ordintes or general locations to troll while we pass thru straits or where we could troll around seattle...

any & all help would be appreciated & you regulars on this board know i give accurate & timely reports of where ever I fish...

If I could could where I wanted, my choices would be:

1) One day trip to Port Angeles
2) One day trip to Gray's Harbor
3) A morning in the shipping lanes outside of Elliot Bay

4) Way down south off of Squaxin Island

These are where I have heard and seen good things lately.

Area 5 (Sekiu) is open till the 30th. I'll be out there this weekend going for the last weekend of the year. We may head up to Neah for some rockfish too. I'm not sure. Kinda depends on how good the fishing is for Silvers! \:\)

Dave,

Sorry I didn't read this until now! How did you end up doing? We found a lot of small blackmouth and few silvers.
My son Justin however managed to get this hog! A nice 18lb Hatchery brat!

Today I landed a native that would have topped the scales around 22 and Justin got another native at about 15. We only put 2 silvers in the box all weekend. But we must have landed 50 fish or more. We also put 4 mackeral in the box. They are fun to fight! \:\)

Gary: We had a mixed bag. Saturday we landed seven and bonked two hatchery fish. Ii also got to release a 30 lb chinook and a huge native coho.

Sunday we brought six to the boat. Only one hatchery fish, but it was 20 lbs. Photos as soon as m y fishing buddy get them to me.

Monday was slow for us. We landed only four coho, with one 16 lb hatchery buck. No mackerel. Overall a fine trip. Lots of fog though.

Here is a photo of our largest coho from Sekiu last weekend. We landed two others in this size class.

BD:

I never get in the shipping lanes when its foggy, but do hit the 600 foot mark when I can see those big boys coming. And you were right, the fog was a bear a few times. Without the GPS we would have been at the dock Monday A.M.

Just got home from Sekiu after fishing Sunday, Monday and the a.m. today. Two of us fishing and we moved all over the area. Sunday was on the slow side with 6 "fins" to the boat, no adipose marks... all coho in the 10 to 15 # range. Monday was weird. We had 22 fish to the boat with one keeper. Some nice bucks in the 16 to 18 # range. Moving around slowly in the fog buat after that, awesome weather and fairly regular action all day long.... but that mark rate (grumble, grumble). Today was fantastic... no fog, beautiful sunrise and the fish were biting. Got our limits on the marked fish and had some NICE natives to the side of the boat with three big fish right at 20 pounds.... just real horses. Terrific trip, hated to leave. One for the memory books.

fished seiku saturday early am for just a couple of hours, right out front & a little west in 590 ft of water, C&R 2 uncut silvers over 10# w/ green triangle flasher & largest size Apex (3 colors w/spots) @ 45' & 30' on downrigger, missed 1 silver, C&R 2 kings w/ chrome flasher & green/glo bucktail on 30" leader @ 30' on downrigger, then left, hit fog long before PA & when we got out of it, i could easily see the mainland south of edmonds (well past kingston), 5+ hours of eyes glued to gps & radar @ 14-16 knots .........
