My younger brother was up there last year and used the Dick Night set up and was catching fish when others were coming out empty. Just my .02 cents.

Floated the Quileute on saturday with a buddy and my lady, she got the biggest in the boat, 8-9lber. Lots of jacks, saw a few other fish caught, and saw lots of fish moving, 150-200, mix of giant kings and big silvers. Saw some kings pushing 50lbs., all fish were chrome beauties. The big let down of the day was saw some kings rolling in some frog water, so after about 30 casts of just barely making it to where they were, we moved closer, first cast into where one had just surfaced, and my spinner just stopped, head shake told me it was a good size fish, saw it after about a minute, over 30, fought it for another 4 minutes and was bringing it home, when just as I was 2 feet from sending this one to the smoker, the flies out. This fish was chrome bright and all of 30lbs, lets just say I was feeling it the rest of the day. Lots of fish moving as I said, should be some already in the Duc, it is very clear though, so it could be tough, right at light is probably the only way to really have success, go get em.

Go even down to size 3 BLue Fox spinners if the water is clear. Also besides orage, pink, and chartruse, use green (not bright or neon but just plane green). Also Dick Nites and Canadian Wonder spoons. Jig and floats can also work, and eggs under floats.
Fish the pools early in the day at first light and also the evening until dark.

Fished the bark hole on the sol duc on Thursday, fish jumping and rolling every where, fished it until about 9:30 on our way out we ran into a local( Dewey) who has been fishing the river for 25+ yrs. He told us that we wern't going to get anything on lures, he talked to us for about ten minutes and invited us down to the river to us some of his eggs. We fished for about another hour, I caught one small jack coho that I released. He then told us were to go on the quill and what to us. We stopped at the three rivers store for some launch and saw a picture of a 38lber that was caught on the lower quill earlier yesterday. The ladies at the store were very nice and they told us the same thing that Dewey told us.Fished the lower quill saw one guy with about a 15lber. heard a Indian on the river say that he netted 60 kings the nite before. Ran into another local who caught 14 on monday, 1 tuesday, 0 wednesday and none on thursday so far. One thing that I have learned on my two trips to the forks area for fishing is that the people up there are very nice and are willing to help you out and give us pointers. I'm taking this fall and winter to educate myself on the rivers up there, if I get a fish that is bonus. I grew up fishing in the salt and now I am trying to learn the rivers. Am thinking of going with a guide to learn more if anyone knows of good guides up there let me know thanks.
