There is probably a bunch of coho in the river up to Hwy 18. I have not seen any chums yet. The chums usually don't start to show until November from Hwy 18 up to Flaming G.

The lower end of the river below ITT Tech is loaded with fish. Didn't see anything really past that all the way up to about middle of kent. But there are already some fish at the hatchery. Still, plenty of crome from the mouth up. Eggs have been the ticket.

Yeah the river is probably full of coho but not open up at hwy18 or flaming till Oct 16th. Heard the game cops are patrolling too. When it rains the fish will be all over. Still a ton out in the salt. Been doing well out there with a nice 10+# the biggest.

I stopped by the Soos Creek hatchery today. Lots of kings doing their thing in the creek still. No coho.

i just got off the phone with a buddy who is a true Green junkie, he has been hitting lots of silvers on the lower end of the river below kent. Slow rolling eggs with a couple of split shot for weight. He also said lots of fish are moving in on the tidal changes.
I would try small floats n eggs .

I have never even thought of the green, but now i am. I am in Puyallup and looking for holes close to home. Where are some spots on the green that I can stop and look for holes. I have waders, is it wadeable? (I don;t know if thats a word.) And what is the best gear to use. Thanks for any info guys!

the upper green near the highway 18 bridge is highly wadeable. Use standard coho gear here although most water is best suited to drifting. the lower green in kent is not wadeable but river access is aided by trails. The water on the lower green is best fished with floats or hardware.

Thanks for the info. Any good places to park in that area. I will hike wherever if need be. I JUST GOTTA HAVE THE FISH. This is the first year that I have really hit this fishing hard, and I got the fever!!! I use #2 hooks with yarn and corkies. I tie an egg lop knot and throw some roe on that back. Do you think this will do me any good there? Thanks for the help again. I appreciate it!

I have noticed that fish on the green a more prone to take eggs. SO to answer your question, yes drifting eggs works.

Did the state change the regs on the Green? My copy says that upriver of the Black Diamond Road Bridge(just upriver of Hwy. 18) does not open for salmon till Nov. 1 and then only for Chums. And from there down to 277th. bridge does not open till Oct. 16 for salmon. Just wondering.

Uh, that is the main reason why they did the openers on that particular river just for that reason

Dave, you are reading the same regs I am reading. I think people get a little confused about the regs, geographically speaking.

This just in......

October 4, 2004

Fishing opens Oct. 6 on Green River downstream of Auburn-Black Diamond Road

Species affected: Coho and chum salmon, trout and other game fish.

Location: From the South 277th Bridge upstream to the Auburn-Black Diamond Road Bridge.

Reason for action: This section of the Green River is normally closed during the first half of October to protect spawning chinook from harassment. High September stream flows caused most chinook spawners to move to areas upstream of the Auburn-Black Diamond Road Bridge, largely eliminating concerns over harassment by anglers fishing for coho and steelhead.

Additional Information: Salmon daily limit is six salmon, minimum size 12 inches, but no more than three adults. All chinook must be immediately released unharmed. The trout daily limit is 2 fish, minimum size 14 inches, except wild steelhead must be released. Statewide rules apply to the minimum size and daily limits for other game fish. A night closure and non-buoyant lure restriction is in effect for all species.

Information contact: Tom Cropp, District 12 Fish Biologist (253) 840-4563 or Curt Kraemer, Region 4 Anadromous Fish Program Manager (425) 775-1311 ext. 101.

Easy,

Great news......but they are not up there!!! I went to the hatchery, no coho there that I seen.

This really irriatates me!!! The reasoning behind the normal oct 16 opener is kings spawning??? Ah hello, why are they not shutting the river down above auburn/black diamond road??? I would assume if they are concerned about natives this would be shut down. Second, if it is about hatchery kings they usually have their allotment for eggs BEFORE the first of october. They also have a king closure throughout this system.......What the hell is their thinking??? Oct 1 should be the opener throughout the river system.....my opinion.

I know what you mean Chumster. I stopped by the hatchery the other day too and all I saw were kings frolicing in the creek. No silvers in the Soos yet.

The Green above Auburn-Black Diamond Rd does not open until November 1st for salmon.
