Ok, I need a good set of pliers to finish off my spinners.

The ends of my spinners have a "D" shape to them because I just use a set of needles nose pliers to finish off the spinner.

In my brilliant power of observation, I have noticed that most people's spinners actually *look* good at the end, and are finished off with a nice round "O" at the end.

What pliers are they using and where can I get some? Does 3Rivers or Teds have any of these special pliers for me? Kent? JoJo?

It's gotta be something that I can pack with me when I go fishing, as I make my spinners in the field, as I need them.

Parker,
We do have them at Ted's, they are the lead masters.

Take a set of SS needle nose pliers and take one side of the tip and round off the tip (1/8 to 1/4") uniformed as best as you can on a bench grinder or roto-zip being sure not to take off too much materiel just enough to make the tip round instead "D" shaped if done right you can grind a groove into improved side for opening up #2 & #3 split rings(for trebles of course \:D ) beats buying lead masters for the boats and vest and truck and the set you drop in a freezin' arse river . hope this helps

Parker:

Sears sells a pair that is perfectly "round" and they are also tapered. The cost is about $18.00, now, if I remember correctly.

any pair with a rounded top...slight bend one way and then wrap the shaft with your fingers.

... once you've made a thousand or two you realize what a waste trying to use two pairs of pliers is.

I'd like to see this, as I've already found out how dangerous using two pairs of pliers can be.

Almost a year ago to the day, I whacked myself in the eye with a set of pliers while trying to finish off a spinner! Dork...dork....dork....

The photos don't do the black eye I had justice! ;\)

I used dualling pliers for years then on a whim tried it with my fingers...its really quite easy after twenty or thirty of them but can be frustrating at first.

For the 'clamping plier' I use a special (cheap) set I bought at a craft store that has rounded nose.

Instead of pliers you might want to try a tool like this...

http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templa...FCabelasCatalog NumberFinder.giftCertificateURL=%2Fcabelas%2Fen%2Ftemplates%2Fgiftcertificate%2Fgiftcertificate.jhtml%3Fid%3D0005586990011a%26podId%3D0005586%26catalogCode%3DIB%26navAction%3Djump% 26indexId%3D&_D%3A%2Fcabelas%2Fcommerce%2FCabelasCatalogNumberFinder.giftCertificateURL=+&QueryText=spinner+making&_DARGS=%2Fcabelas%2Fen%2Fcommon%2Fsearch%2Fsearch-box.jhtml.8&Go. x=16&Go.y=12&N=4887&Ntk=all&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Nty=1&Ntt=spinner+making&noImage=0&returnPage=search-results1.jhtml

Basically it allows you to make the loops. I have not used one but it is what I would use if I were making my own spinners.

I've got one of those tools I purchased from Mor-Tac. They are junk. They are just too flexible and do not allow the tight clean twist you want. Two pairs of craftsmen needle nose are my preferred method. I like the D shaped loop they leave in the spinner shaft.

I have one of the spinner making tools like Gary showed only made by YOST which is very sturdy. I have made probably thousands of spinners with it and it still works like new. About 10 years ago I was making spinners for retail sale thru a fellow that ran Hook Line & Sinker bait shop in Hillsboro Ore. It even has a cutter which cuts the wire off when you finish. It sure makes it nice to have it and a some componantes with you so when you loose that only spinner that is catching fish you can whip out another just like it to keep catching fish.
