C&B: Seems to me there are a TON of options in the $50-$75 range. I am going with the Ugly Stik Lite 8'6", Med. heavy. It's mostly a glass rod, has decent action, and ya can't break it without really slamming it in the car door.. Add a couple 6500C3 Abu's and for a relatively low cost you got a crackerjack set-up. Okuma has a couple rods that are great priced, about 8' and got nice action to them. So does a few other manufacturers. If your buying a pair the only suggestion I have is make both rods/reels the same. (why? I have no idea...it just seems logical.. Mike

I have in my boat each winter rods from 9' and over a hundred dollars each to 6' flimsy 10 dollar jobs collected at yard sales and all of them catch an equal number of fish. The only thing I would look for is something that has a slightly light tip as it makes it easier to tell when the plugs are working correctly. Beyond that don't spend too much money on them as plug rods take a major beating.

My all-around favorite plug rod, since it can do double duty as a drifter or just about anything else you ask of it, is a Loomis HSR-1021C GL3. But for the money it's hard to beat the Basspro IM6 8'6" 10-20lb casting rods, regular 39.99 but on sale at Christmas each year for 29.90.

Hey lead thrower, My HSR 1021C GL3 does all that too!! We should do plugging contest between yours and mine this winter to see which rod will play more chromers! How about we play for a 6 pack of Fat Tire?

I have a HSR 932c, I love it. It's sensitive enough to feel the action and still have plenty of backbone. Loomis rods are expensive but with the lifetime warranty and expiditer service there hard to beat.

For all plug fishing I use the Berkley A92-7-9MB. You can't miss it with the big lettering "Air IM7 by Buzz Ramsey." It is the only plug rods I have ever used and I love them. Although a little light for big 'ol chinookies they sure are a fish catching machine. I got mine at Ted's and haven't seen them anywhere else. Been awhile but I'm pretty sure they where right around $65.00. As a one piece rod though you do have to be careful hauling them around!
