Thinking about a trip right in the middle of August, when the pinks should be at their peak. Want to try there, for my little nephew.

One quick question: during this peak of the pink run, what’s a rough estimate of the typical number of fish that a boat with “experienced” anglers have caught/released in a day, in the past? I’m talking about if they target pinks. Obviously this can vary a lot, but are we looking at 20-30 per boat, or just what?

Any thoughts as to how many fish people catch during this peak period would be helpful.

Mid July on should be okay for pinks. We have had many 50+ fish days to the boat. Sometimes the fishing is so hot we only put out three rods because any more fish on than three is just plain crazy, especially when you have three kids 8 and under in the boat.

Here is a photo of one humpy my son Ryan caught on August 12, 2003 when he was 4.

Herring works well, as well as trash (flasher and hootchie), but I will be trying beads, two red, two black, alternating, above a black 5/0 hook about 20" behind a flasher. Simplicity, but effective this year on kings and silvers.

The coho should be thick in mid-August and pinks should be an afterthought. You should slam them! I would target silvers and if you hit a couple pinks incidentally, slow down, put on a white flasher and pink spoon and nail the pinks.

If the above doesn't work and Sekiu seems a little slow, don't hesitate to go to Neah Bay. The drive is usually worth it!

OHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh yeah!!! That is a FUN fishery!! We nailed them with a small white flasher and a pink squid....Also did well with a 4 oz banana weight and a hootchie with an 8wt Loomis rod....What fun! Couldn't get past em to the silvers at times!! I'll be there too in August.....Lord willing!

T-Rex: I called Olson's awhile back about that same question, and they said that the last few years, at least, it's only been OPEN for kings for a small period of time, so"ya gotta take what ya kin git".....sorry.

You will get a fish every 5-10 minutes. If you are using herring and don't get a bite in 5 minutes, the herring is gone. Troll with the riggers set at 35 feet; although you will get them taking the bait on the surface when you attach the line to the rigger and down to 60 feet.

Should also be a mixed bag of pinks and silvers, about 3-4 pinks for every silver, and then 3-6 wild fish for every hatchery fish.
