I have a question for all you rod builders out there. I have a Lamiglass spinning rod with one of those short handles. I don't use it much because the short handle drives me nuts while trying to cast. So my question is. If I take the rod to a rod builder can he change the handle or am I stuck with the way it is?

yes the handle can be changed, but if the new handle is drastically larger, the guide spacing will be off and the action of the rod will be differant. This would probably only happen if you were switching from say a trout handle, to a salmon handle. I would recomend to keep the differance in handle length, no greater then four or five inches.

Changing to a longer handle is a lot easier than to change to a shorter handle.
You got to get new seat, new fore grip, and repossition the guides on the first section. The guides will be OK if the new handle is only and inch or two longer.

Well thanks for all the feedback. what I have is a G1355, 9' , rated 4 to 10 line. Its got a short handle but a very long fore grip. Reading the posts here it sounds like it can be done but moving guides etc could be too expensive. Maybe I should save up for another spinning rod. Anyway, you all told me what I needed to know-thanks again

If I were you, I would just get another rod.
Your original rod is built for that purpose, pitching eggs and jigs. Don't fix it; it is not broken.

Yes, you can change handle to any length you want... but you will want to adjust balance (reel seat position, etc.) and guide spacing accordingly.

A good rod is worth modifying or fixing up if you are "into" that sort of thing.

I have some rods that have been stripped and rebuilt three times.
