Color schemes for blackies are green, blue, black, white, purple, glow in the dark or combinations thereof. These colors will provide the best silhouette/profile. You should also consider matching the profile/size of the natural forage in the immediate area.

Trolling speeds vary and depend on the weight of the dr ball, gear in use and depth of water. However, 2.0 to 3.5 kts will give you the ideal speed in order to consistently catch fish.

Fish on!

Drag your downrigger ball just off bottom in 80-120ft. Actually try to hit bottom. The rubber bungees work real good in this scenario. Green-glow flashers w/green-glow squid or spoon (3.5ft/50lb leader for squids & 4.5ft/25lb leader for spoons, no flasher w/ green-glow 4-5inch plugs or just plain brined-up herring w/scent. If your DR ball is smacking the bottom, place your offering about 10ft above ball. Troll slower than you would for silvers & with the tide.

I use the same tackle (white/glow Hot Spot and spoons or hoochies) that I would use for migrating kings. I even fish the same water depths (80-120'). I like to troll pretty fast for blackmouth. Troll with the tide.
