Anyone currentley using this rod?? I have an older IMX 1025 which has been one of the best rods I've ever owned. But I have always wanted a IMX 1084 to fish for steelhead, silvers and the odd king or two with as well, couldn't afford the pair so I went with the 1025. Looks like I can get the Rainshadow now at a pretty resonable $$, do they rate below the IMX blank, more like a GL-3........?? 22

I use rainshadow seconds for my boat rods. They kick-ass. Not only are they sensitive to the touch, but quite durable, unlike some other overpriced rods that rhyme with dumas

My buddy Steve is a *big* Rainshadow fan. He has that rod and loves it.

I am not impressed at all with the rainshadow product. I have a couple of friends who have them and break them on a pretty regular basis. Then you are waiting for a couple of weeks to get it back. I am a loomis snob though, if you are looking for a little less expensive the lamiglas certified pros are nice as well.

The lamiglas certified pros are nice rods, the trouble is most of them have been personalized with someone elses name.

I own a Rainshadow 1084c. In my opinion it is a great rod. It is however below the IMX. I have multiple Rainshadow rods and have built quite a few others for people and have yet to have one break on me or get one returned that wasn't broken due to user error. I hope this helps

The "personalized" rods are over 10' and there are only 5 out of about 40 rods. The rod Chrome is looking for is an STR 1084 9' 8-12#, I was looking to buy that rod in a GL2 but I opted for a X96JC Certified Pro 6-15#, with nobodys name on it, that works well for silvers, kings and steelhead. It was $150 at Sportco and right now they have a 10% off coupon available, pretty much saves you the tax. Good all aournd rod for the money.

I'm a firm believer on Rainshadows.

I don't understand the fascination with loomis. Especially Gl-2. Considering one can buy a lamiglas for the same price, it seems like a no-brainer. I've lost all faith in loomis. When one takes extra care of his rods, and still has to trade them in every year, there's a problem. Under the same circumstances, I've NEVER broken a lamiglas.

I have landed several 25lbs+ Kings on a Rain Shadow 1264 with no problems. I put the muscle to it and it did its job. I do have Loomis 1084 IMX and it is more sensitive, but I think the Rain Shadow will perform fine.

buy it, I'd be shocked if you broke it using 12 pound line and even if you do just drive down the road and get a new one since they are made in your backyard. If you need an IMX than well you don't know how to drift fish very well. :p

Why cheat yourself? have not fished RS, but know some guys who think they know how to fish use them, stick w/ the IMX, if we we hook up this winter I have a spare 1084imx/ 250te if you would like to fish it your welcome to it since i use the 1082imx/stella2500sr setups all winter, i might have a line on a guy willing to sell his 1084, i'll let you know.

Mav, you can pencil me in as one of your best buddies if you're handing out IMX's.

Stick with the IMX 1025c. I owned both the IMX 1025c and the IMX 1084c. The 1084 is a good summer run rod, but I think it's a tad too light for for the heavier gear for winter and/or spring steelhead. I wouldn't even think of using an IMX 1084 for a king. No backbone to it. Have fun trying to lift the head up on a 30+ pound king with a 1084c. Snap-O-Rama! You could do slivers, but why bother?

If you want good 9' rod, I'd look in to the Sage GSH III 290. Heavy enough for winter/spring fish, yet subtle enough for summer runs. I will wouldn't use that rods for kings, though.

Rainshadow makes a fine blank, but it's more on line with a GL3. Doesn't come close to the weight and sensitivity of the IMX.

I had a great time pitching hootchie spinners for big bright OP coho's yesterday with my IMX 1025c. As always, the 1025c came through with flying colors. Biggest coho to the bank was 16 pounds.
