I'd like to hear about it to. I had heard that all the long rods were spinning. I've got a couple 1363's that I love and would like to hear about the longer rod.

B-12, I have that very rod. 8-17# 12'. I love and hate that rod. I like the length, it keeps a lot of line off the water but it sure isn't a tight quarters rod \:\) . This rod is a real meat stick, by that I mean you can really put the pressure on the fish. The only thing I dislike about this rod is how fast it is (action). If you don't have a good bit of clear area behind you to get a good whip into the cast, you will find it hard to cast light weights like 1/4 oz jigs on a float. However, if you are on big water using dinks with a bit of weight then is is outstanding.
The reason that loomis quit making this rod was noone was buying them. Would I buy another one, YES, if the price was right. Not the $355 I paid for it when I bouught it.

Tight Lines,

MJ

When I bought mine(just got it, haven't fished it yet) I bought thinking it would be a bit more like my 1263, with a little extra length.... I actually bought it for drift fishing as I already have a great float rod. It's not what I expected.... Unfortunately, there was no info about it in the loomis brochure and there isn't any on the website(they are still making it... they just don't advertise it in the US). I bought it on a whim, because I like oddball stuff and long rods.

I guess I just thought it would be different some how..... I sure do like the length though.... I won't have to pick my arm up as high when I want that clean drift! Papa always said work smart not hard.

I'm gonna give it a workout this weekend out in the Grays Harbor area...

Have you done any drift fishing with it?

Well I'm going out on a limb here because some of this is conjecture and fishing store rumours (from BC).

The 1445 by loomis was actually being built by Batson. Loomis found that batson made the rod (rainshadow ISP1445F for cheaper and way better than the Gloomis marked rod so they stopped dealing with Batson on that rod).

Now about the rod, I own a Rainshadow 1445 and it is amazingly strong, but NOT a meat stick. I think the Loomis version was beefier, but the rainshadow ISP1445F is categorized as a "spinning" blank so it seems lighter weight.

I use it for +35 pound chinook springs and chums, but it is a lovely rod to play a coho on as well. It does not feel overpowering.

Personally if you could get a good deal on the Loomis 1445 ...like maybe $150 US I'd go for it...but otherwise I'd geta new rainshadow built custom for a bit more ...

here's a link to a company selling the 1445 blanks by rainshadow For about $82...looks great in green...
