WOW---Chehalis River sports Fisherpeople!!! Change in Tribal netting schedule!!!! ugh, ugh, grrrrrrrrrr Why???? Did the tribal fishermen not catch their quota???? Recorded 10-18-2004 Additional days--- October 31, November 1- 3 November 7 - 9 November 14 - 19 I'd like to know the names of the WDF People that negotiate(???) fishing schedule times with the tribe. Would love to know catch totals for both Commerical and Tribal???? Funny how WDF people have all the answers but ask for catch totals of commericals----"Tongue tied" "Worse day sports fishing, still better than the best day working"

Drifter WA: WTF! I don't know whether to cry or throw my computer monitor across the room. Have I ever mentioned that fish management in this state sucks? I was really looking forward to enjoying the only two net-free days left for October (today and tomorrow, up until your press release). Now they take 50% of what remains away from sports! This is beyond belief. The upriver user was already being royally screwed.... now they're getting screwed with whipped cream and a cherry on top! Since you are a full time fisher, I suggest we immerse ourselves in the season-setting process for next year's NOF circuit. I don't know how I'll juggle it with a busy surgical practice, raising four girls, and other personal setbacks this fall, but this is all out WAR! Are you in? Anyone else out there with time, talent, or treasure to invest in this issue? Without personal involvement from concerned sports, we can only look forward to getting boned over and again.

The Public needs to be aware of this BullSh@t. The State has to do a better job of dealing with the tribes. There has to be other ways to supplement their incomes without netting. Farmers have been paid to not grow crops.

To fish-doc:
As an engineer what I can contribute is a statistical analysis of available data, which is what I do anyway.
What we need (IMHO) is a legal judgement requiring federal enforcement of the Boldt decision (ie, we want our 50 percent). This is kind of a backwards argument from the norm, but I think it is appropriate here, 'cause we ain't getting our half.

Since I have been here in washington it has always been bend over when you go get your license. Everyone that bought a crab license should start a class action lawsuit against the state for "theft of services" I'm in, with the people here on this board, there should be plenty of different qualities that people can bring to the table. Let us turn this anger into action that motivates those that would stand around, to join us in this fight.

Aunty exactly think about what happened about the proposed steelhead moritorium we gave up our rights to keep 5 fish to 1 just so that the tribes can net the other 4 fish that we can no longer keep

Yes and no SHD .... Let's ay you come out to the Bogey in mid-December this year. The tribes are alreadt netting 5 days a week because of the hatchery return and they won't be adding any days because of the politcs of netting 24/7. Let's say you happen to catch one of those NOW fairly rare nice December nates ... kinda like the one Claire and I have at the top of the page. It's already passed the nets, so it's safe from them. You can only kill one now. It's a trophy fish, about 21 lbs. but you decide that maybe you don't want to kill this one as your only one because it means you can't in Feb when you might get a 25. Fish released, one of the ones that we need the very most to make it ... does

I like the logic, Bob. I've always maintained a similar phylosophy. The next step people would make (hopefully) is to release that 25 pound February fish if they did get it and forgo their 1/year native kill even if it were legal: Ethical evolution so to speak. What perplexs me is the talk of the WDFW realocating these fish into the tribal harvest. First 4, then all 5, presumably. If this does indeed happen down the road, then the net result will be a ZERO increase in the pre-moritorium escapement value. In other words our effort as sportsmen to bolster the native steelhead population, or at a minimum slow its decline will be in vane. I'm not advocating killing our share. I'm just sick to death of politics.

This was one of the things that I warned about, because the way the law is written, If one user group does not "take" all of their share, those resources can be taken by other resource user groups.
