Tackle for the Troops!

Our troops overseas use fishing as a means to get away from the everyday grind of fighting a war. They use anything they can get their hands on to fish with, and most of it is home made. They use rods made from antennas, line made from parachute cord and bait from their MRE's. I was trying to set something up so that we could get them some quality tackle. After dealing with the Armed Services and the USO, I realized that shipping costs alone would not make this feasable. Luckily their is a company called The Worm Shack that has already set everything up. Dave Harris is the manager and they are a respected name in the fishing community. They were featured in an article in Bassmaster Magazine on fishing in Iraq. Their link is http://www.wormshack.com. I have already sent them a large amount of product and plan on sending more. They are looking for lures such as trout spinners, bass baits, hooks, line and just about anything else we use on a daily basis. This is a great cause, and I hope you will all join in and support our troops! Thank You. D.J. LaRoche West Coast Custom Tackle http://www.westcoastcustomtackle.com

Just wondering where the part is that says " we make no money off this venture.. its all for the troops"..... If there are guys who want to fish I am sure they can get gear in the mail without sending you any money...

These guys/gals don't get paid much..and are likely supporting families back home while they risk their lives over in Iraq.
The tackle shop doing this is also selling T-Shirts with a nice logo for $15.00, with $5.00 of that going towards the tackle they are going to ship over. (expensive shipping, I am sure!). Then, at least you get something for your $$.
"Supporting our troops" is not just a phrase, but an 'Action Item". It isn't something we say, but something we do.
My two centavos...

I am not asking for any money. I simply think this is a great way to help the troops. We are not directly involved with The Worm Shack. They are just asking for donations, preferably tackle. If you have means of getting tackle overseas, by all means do so. This is just another avenue. These guys at The Worm Shack are all top notch and If I didn't have any tackle to send them, I wouldn't hesitate a second to send them money. I'm confident it would end up in the right hands. Another way to show support is to buy a t-shirt from them. I did and I received it in about a week.

O.K, Good idea, bad presentation. I am a little touchy about the subject when I found out Alberstons stores were selling those Yellow "support our troops ribbons" for like 14 bucks and sending the money to " Albertsons"...
If its a not for profit then its a great idea... but it does not state that anywhere so one can assume its not... Don't care to see someone profit from " good intentions"...

Yes, it's 100% of the proceeds going to the Tackle for the Troops. Worm Shack gets -0- out of this, and their time and energy is all donated. Should settle that issue... Getting 2 of the T-Shirts...(a man can always use more T-shirts.) Mike

B-12 Sand bass and Sand Dabs.
Sorry, I couldn't help myself. I am going to go put together a big box of tackle and lures right now. Sounds like a great cause.

AM: You see right through me! I figure that our troops can leave those bobbers all over the dessert and drive the Al Quida guys nuts trying to figuree out how to detonate them.
Seriously though I do not know what they can actuallu use. I think I will send line and hooks, cuz those are good for about anything.

My friend that is over there right now has told me they fish for something that resembles catfish They also fish for other smaller fish that they have no clue what they are called. They say it is the only thing that is really entertaining to them. I have already sent a care package to my friend he hasnt received it yet but it has been sent. One thing he said they are in need of is Fishing poles over there. I sent him a telescopic pole he said that it works fine.

Great cause... then they should have no problem posting the fact that its 100% profit free.... which they have not done.
I still think this is a scam to sell tackel,,,,

Hey B-Run even if it is a scam to sell tackle. The tackle is still being donated to the troops. So whats the problem. Go to GI Joes buy tackle then go there and donate it if you dont want to spend your money there

Howdy, I've been lurking on these boards for a while and haven't posted, but now seems like a great time for for my first post. I am currently deployed over here in Kuwait about 30 minutes from Iraq. I don't know about the tackle for troops deal (we do recive TONS of donated items), but we are able to order from such places as Amazon.com and Cabelas.com. Postage isn't that bad, it gets shipped to an apo (air force post office) box in new york so you just pay regular postage plus a few dollars because it's an apo address. Shipments take 6 to 14 days. I've ordered a St. Croix travel fly rod, a G. loomis venture 5 reel, line, backing, leaders, flies, and other misc items. All of it has gotten here quickly and in good shape. I will ask around and see if any of the army or navy guys have heard of tackle for the troops. Enjoy.

Second: Thanks for being there, protecting those folks. St. Croix? Loomis?? Combat pay must be good! Seems that store has good intentions, but if you guys can order right off the web from Cabelas, then I really don't see the need to buy tackle (no matter if 100% donated, or not) to send over there. I just sent a care package with some tackle to one of my friends in my old unit. He doesnt have email access because of his high operation status. The last letter that he sent me stated that alot of the other marines were jealous of the gear and were trying to get some of their families to send some over. I know that this gear donation drive (if it even makes it to these marines) would be great. Hopefully he has time to catch some fish instead of being shot at.
