HELP... what do you consider the best set up to go after blackmouths. Going to give it try this weekend in area 10 if at all possible.
What part of the bay holds the elite blackmouths? Any information would be great. Thanks

MeFish, I personally prefer a green glow Hot Spot flasher with 32" of 30# Seaguar fluorocarbon leader to a green/white glow Coyote spoon. I troll at about 1.7 mph.
I fish within 10' of the bottom and with the tide.
In area 10, try Manchester or Westpoint.
Good luck.

Try doing a search - lots of info on BM in Ebay. I fish the West side of the sound generally, so my knowledge is somewhat limited.

Look for fish off of Duwamish Head and West Point. The key to finding blackmouth is to find food. Find where bait is holding and blackmouth should be close by. Fish will usually hold very close to the bottom.

As far as gear goes hoochies, cutplugs, sppons - they all work. Generally look for things that glow because of the depths that are being fished.

Elliot Bay is certainly a great place to fish for blackmouth. Lots of history here - the technique of mooching was developed here by fisherman "mooching" live bait from the Asian folks jigging pogies from the docks.

There is a derby going on this weekend put on by a popular guy around these parts known as Downriggin. Don't be afraid to venture out into other places in area 10. Just across the way is Allen Bank, Dolphin Pt, Southworth Point, Manchester, etc, etc. Seems like lately I have been picking through alot of shakers to find a keeper. Fish +/- 2 hours of ebb tide and move if you can't find anything over 22".
